Probably a stupid question but am bidding for a couple of blanks on Ebay.Description states ENDS WAXED, does this coating affect wood ie soaks into wood ?
Reason I ask is because I intend using the blank as a clockface.

koolwabbit,

The ends of blanks are waxed to stop them splitting as they dry out. This is quite common, particularly with exotic timbers.

The wax only penetrates a fraction of a millimeter into the wood, and will cut away without any problems when you come to turn them, so unless what you have in mind for them won't allow you to turn the surface away, you won't have a problem.

Gary, dont intend turning at all. Imagine a log with clock hands on the face
the bit you would normally remove for a bowl. Also was considering leaving bark as a feature but I think this has also been "dipped". :?
And what could be a method to rerip down centre safely ?
