bookcase, remove tongue and groove shelf

How do I remove a shelf from a bookcase without sawing i.e. it's the type of construction where the shelf slides into the sides of the bookcase from the front (tongue and groove?). Is this possible or do I just have to saw it off at each side of the bookcase?

You need to see how it is fixed- I assume it is probably glued so you will have to cut it out. You may be lucky and it just be screwed in but I doubt it.
