I want to build a bifold window for the kitchen (1200x1100mm) so i'm on the hunt for hardware. I have found fittings to suit larger doors but i'm after a smaller system for a window.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

I know this isn't going to sound too helpful, but it's the best I can offer right now.

The best selection of hardware I have ever seen, including all sorts of fancy hinges for windows which I've never seen anywhere else, was in a Paris department store, which has an excellent bricolage section, which makes our sheds look very poor indeed.

It has three initials, BVH or something similar. So if you are off to Paris this week...

I told you it wasn't going to be a lot of help!

Cheers

I found European hardware is light years ahead of UK. I am currently making german style Tilt and turn windows and doors and am using hardware fro Roto and Segeinia. Roto have a website and a UK agent called Wagner and the kit is available from local double glazing supplies companies

Ooh, this sounds interesting. You don't by any chance have a picture to post, do you? I, for one, would be interested.

Cheers

Mr_Grimsdale - bifold window, just like a set of bifold patio doors but smaller. Reason, i want to fully open the window, with both leafs on the left when open and not have the full width projection as you would with a casement.

Thanks for the links. I'll have a gander

Steve, in case anyone does goe looking for them it is BHV and my local one (well local to the in-laws in Caen) has just closed. I agree though a damn good store - expensive perhaps but variety is incredible.

Steve,

The Parisian shop is BHV (Bazaar de L'Hotel de Ville). The one I've been to is just over the river from Notre Dame. You're right, it has a fantastic selection of hardware and tools, all in the basement.

It reminds me of a proper old-fashioned ironmongers with a Selfridges on top. It still sells some obscure and specialist tools. When I worked in Paris for a while, that was the main shop we used for getting all kinds of tools. Not expensive either, considering it's right in the centre of town. Just the place to visit if anyone fancies taking the other half to Paris for a romantic weekend.......

Do you need special hardware anyway? What's wrong with butt hinges carefully detailed in? Perhaps a pull handle and towers or espag bolt at the folding join.

cheers
