I killed mine this morning. I've taken it apart and cleaned everything up and it sort of works but now it has 'that smell' I full expect it to die next time I come to use it.

Is there any merit in buying the better quality ones or should I move over to a RO sander instead ? It was really only used to knock the surface down quickly with 80g before moving over to the 1/3 sheet sander.

The last one was a nutools 720W from CPC so it was cheap and nasty but its lasted at least 6-7 years so I can't complain.

I think belt sanders too usefull not to have. If you can find one that takes a frame it produces a very flat surface, an inversion stand and angle fence are usefull to have for a multitude of jobs
I'd replace the tin plate underneath with a makita graphite cloth and connect to an industrial vac. The only downside is the noise ,Random orbit wins there
