Hi - Thank you for being here. I am a furniture maker here in W Sussex.
I think my 2001 1-phase S45 bandsaw fails to start because of the capacitor. Photo below.

Neither the instructions, parts list nor capacitor have full details of it.
Here is what I have:
450 V G 25/070/21
400 V B 25/085/21
014
50/6

How can I find the size to order a replacement? Any suggestions?
Thanks, NickEB

You need the number before the uF on the top line that's the important bit.
The rest is voltage and date codes.

Dependant upon the rating of the motor assuming it is a start/run item then the following sizes should be a reasonable guide.
Size is not over critical as capacitors of this type typically have =/- 5-7% tolerance anyway.

1/2 HP. (375 watts) 16 Mfd.
3/4 HP. (550 watts) 20Mfd.
1 HP. (746 watts) 25 Mfd.
1.5 HP ((1100 watts) 32 Mfd.

All should be at least 380-415 volt working to cover peak voltages encountered not the RMS of mains supply.

Thanks for the info.
When you say 16 Mfd, 20 Mfd, do you mean 16 micro farad, etc. ?

I will check the power of the motor - I suspect about 1100watts, which is a running current of 5amps
