I never considered getting a band saw before. I pretty much used the table saw for everything.

Now that I have found new ways of doing some things, more H & S friendly. :)

I sometimes rip 1.8 m lengths of 50 by 38 mm softwood into 50 by 18 and split 3.6 m lengths of 150 by 38 into 75 by 38 with a 15 deg angle.

Is a band saw or a table saw best.?

well, if the dimensions are important, you will lose more in the kerf with a table saw.

Personally, I would use the table saw with a featherboard or two. but a bandsaw would also do the job easily enough.

Either one will the job well.

The bandsaw is more difficult to set up, but if you are using the right blade for the job and it is well tuned, you will get great results.

Personally, for ripping, I'd use the TS every time. It's easier to get a straight cut, particularly when bevelling.

Both both machines are perfectly capable.

As above, Table saw would be an easier way, mainly because that's exactly what it's for.
