it is a project that i have planned for the future. there are some specialist forums around on the subject.

i would love to catch a salmon on a rod that i had built, a retirement dream!!

Do you know any links to those forums marcros? I'd appreciate a link or two.

I finished my first bamboo flyrod eight years ago and caught my first trout on it shortly thereafter. Please don't wait until retirement marcros. Getting the jigs right to shave down the bamboo took my skills to the edge but it was so worth the journey. In Maine there are landlocked Atlantic salmon that I've caught on my bamboo flyrod and that first experience was exhilirating. Part of it was catching a fish on a rod I built the other part is the salmon - I release everything I catch - I hope 'they go and tell their buddies not to worry about landing in the frying pan' so I can catch a few more.

My grandfather designed and built six strip bamboo rods in the 1930s. I have one of his rods that has never been fished - I can't bring myself to put the reel on it and chase a trout with it.

it is going back a while but google has bought up

and

amongst others.

I also seem to remember that this book is the seminal works on the subject

this site was pretty interesting- most will probably be very familiar to you now that you have made a few.

i could do with actually doing some fly casting so that i know what features/handling to design into the rod.
