Hi everyone,
Axminster have an offer on torx head screws - 1500 for £12.95 instead of £21.40

The sizes are

3.5 x 16mm x 200 3.5 x 20mm x 200 3.5 x 30mm x 300 4 x 30mm x 300 4 x 40mm x 100 4 x 50mm x 120 5 x 50mm x 100
5 x 60mm x 100 5 x 70mm x 40 5 x 80mm x 40

Torx head screws are dearer than pozi, so I've done a price comparison with Screwfix versions (I know, sad isn't it?) and their torx screws would cost £46, based on their bulk prices, so even dearer for normal quantities. However I can't compare the quality, and the Screwfix screws may be a better product (spax).

On the other hand, the basic screwfix pozi screws would cost somewhere around £8 for the same selection - again at bulk prices, so dearer and you don't get the handy carry case.

So good value it seems, if you need torx heads.

Hello K,
Yep I got an advert on email to that effect, problem is many of the sizes offerred are those I use very rarely and wind up storing for years and years.
I am therefore condemned to pay the full price for screws that I use by the individual boxes, hey ho.

For any one who likes the torx head type of screws give the Torxfast range from Toolstation a go. They are very good quality and amazing value for money. In case you hadn't guessed I am a big fan.

I've never used torx head screws. How do they compare to standard pozi drive screws?

Hi Render1,
yes you're right about the sizes, and I'm not sure about the need for torx when it comes down to small sizes anyway, but I thought I'd pass the message on anyway. It still seems like a good deal, provided you have shelf space for loads if unopened boxes of small screws!!

To Tombo46:-
I've only rarely used them because they are usually so much dearer than bog-standard Screwfix pozidrive, but what I've noticed is the grip is so much more reliable. The driver bit just stays in there, whereas the pozi can slip and damage the head of the screw, the driver bit and possibly the work itself. That's my limited experience of them. Perhaps cheaper ones may have a weaker head which could get damaged anyway, so no advantage, but I'm just guessing here.

Does anybody have any experience of torx vs pozi with similar quality screws? That would be a useful thing to know. In fact I'll start a new thread (screw thread?) on that.
