Had 5 minutes to kill at work and decided to upload an avatar picture to my profile. Despite resizing to 140 x 140 and saving as a.gif, the lowest possible quality, the file size is still too big at 9.8KiB.

Does anyone know how to make the picture any smaller?

Cheers, Mark

I use Adobe CS but some of the cheaper versions might work where you can alter image size/pixels?

Hi Mark,

You don't have to make it 140 x 140, I think that is the maximum but there's nothing wrong with making it a bit smaller.

When saving, see if you can use a save for web option such as available in Photoshop. This strips out any unnecessary junk from the file leaving just the image data. You also don't need to save the file with a very high quality setting. All of these steps will help to reduce the file size considerably

HTH

Brian
