My eldest daughter has developed a very keen interest in all things arty and has asked me to build a proper artists easel for her painting.
Now I have a fairly decent mental picture I could work out some sketches from but i would like to do a proper job for her so was wondering if any of you guys know of a web site that has woodworking plans on it with a possibility of the offending project.
Or indeed has anyone made one before with some advice or pictures?

Best Regards
Rob

Hi Rob

Before you "do a Tiddles", you are aware that you can buy some pretty decent ones for not huge money right?

Personally, that means nothing to me as I can make one much better, for much less in no time at all*

Rob,

Also be aware there are varying designs. It depends a lot on what your facilities are; easels can take up some space.

I get by with a folding Winsor & Newton, table easel (Sometimes known as the Eden model) Available on eBay. Mine cost £14.00. or thereabouts.

I clamp it down to the table with a G clamp, and it easily manages canvases of 30" x 20"
I have even supported a 40" x 24" but that was stretching it a bit!

Trago Mills have some very reasonably priced outdoor easels at N.A. cheaper than you could buy the timber, plus some specialised tools for rebating etc. would be needed for home production.

TM are also good for art supplies as well.

thanks guys
OK point taken, I think it is a strong possibility that I could of been carried away with the romantic notion of doing something for my daughter.
Devonwoody the thought of the dreaded Trago Mills brings me out in a cold sweat, however possibly one visit for a specific item might not be too painful.
New plan, buy an easel and build a nice box/chest for all her paints, brushes and other sundries; might make a good Christmas gift.

Thanks for your advice.

Trago Mills was OK. On holiday 15 years ago, I went to Trago Mills, and got a dozen, 12" G cramps for £2.50 each.

Made in China, cast rather than forged, but they do a job and so far haven't let me down.

And if they break? What did I lose?

Happy enough bunny! :D

Such a silly idea, making your own easel! Rob, just as well that you didn't post this on a woodwork forum!
