Hi,
I've recently acquired a Stanley No. 7 plane, but it came with the wrong iron. I intend to get a Kunz iron as a replacement since its the only thin iron that I can find (the plane's Y-lever pin is frozen in its hole so I can't take it out and replace the Y-lever with a longer one). Anyone had a chance to try it? Kunz doesn't have too good a reputation with their planes so this is why I'm asking...
Or if you know any other thin replacement irons that can be had cheaply, please tell me.
Thanks
Sam

No direct experience of them, but Ray Isles do a 'thicker' blade which fits without modification for £23. Axminster sell a thin Japanese 'Samurai' blade for £52.50.

I have a Kunz toothed blade which is good quality but I don't have any of their ordinary blades

+1 (and far better toothed than the Ashley Iles toothed block plane blade)

Hello,

But look at the coarse machine marks on the toothed blade above the teeth. It won't matter on a toothed blade, but it will be a pig to Rome those marks when it does matter on a regular plane iron. Workshop heaven do Ray Iles blades in thick or thin to suit Stanley's. Quiangsheng too will fit and are great quality.

The photo has made those marks look worse than they are. In practice they wouldn't be a problem and would polish out quickly.

Cheers
