We have a huge piece of cedar of lebanon about 9'x3'x4" and want to split it down the thickness (i.e. 2 pieces about 2").
It's a heavy boogger and the (only?) obvious answer would be a chain saw on a track. Would one be available to hire or borrow somewhere in Derbyshire or not too far away?
 
I would have thought that a sawmill or operator with a woodmiser would be a better bet.

Out of interest, what do you plan to make with it ?

Large rustic tables. It's too rough to resaw much smaller it'd fall apart.

Thanks for that. Hmm, dunno. I did wonder about making up a frame saw with a length of bandsaw blade.
