Advice on finishing Maple kitchen doors

Hi

Will be coming to the end soooooon to making my new kitchen doors in Maple....Thoughts now turn to finish.
SWMBO and i want a basic clear finish...high protection...and a satin or matt finish.
i have the equipement to spray and was told to seal and spray with car bodyshop cellulose.... :shock:
is this something people would recommend or are there alternatives

I've used Chestnut products Melamine Lacquer a lot when spraying. An excellent product - forgiving to apply, buffs out easily and gives a rock hard, water and heat proof finish. Doesn't yellow, either.
With car products your never sure what you're getting.
