Advice finishing some MDF wardrobe caecasses.

I'm building some built in carcasses and am using standard 18mm MDF with 6mm MDF backs.

To shorten the learning curve on MDF finishing what do you use? I assume some sort of sealer first then roller on some eggshell or is stain better?

Also standard screws with pre drlled pilots or splash out on some fancy screws?

I made a built in rasied bed for my son from MDF and just rollered in with silk emulsion - it looked great and still looked great 5 years later
