The green and wetter end of the M4.
These are the first sierras I've done, they're the Berea kits (from Vince in the other turners workshop) and for a fiver they are an extremely well made solid pen, so much nicer than the usual no name kits I usually use.
There also a rather bling Diva pen from Pencrafts.
The difference between the colours on the two made from one of Georges blanks is down to the fact that i painted the tube on the sierra and i didnt on the Diva.
The third pen was made from what was left of the oak burr i posted about a short while back.
Please excuse the photography.

Very stylish and distinctive barrels, what is the approx. diameter of the finished barrel on the the Oak burr version ?
As much as I appreciate the uniqueness of the cast blanks, which are a great improvement on the mass marketed norm, the real wood is my personal preference.

12 mm nib end and 12.5mm at tother and 13.25mm in the middle. approx.

According to the berea instructions its the same both ends, but the bushing set i got was 12 and 12.5mm. so i measured the pen components and they were 12 and 12.5 too. I am guessing the design may have change fractionally over time?

Thanks nev, just trying to strike a balance between the form and being too chunky when held, and wanted an idea before acquiring any more kits.

Did a couple of similar kits and although someone picked them out as being what they wanted, too me they just seemed on the chunky side.

Thankyou Paul.

Chas, if its of any help here it is alongside one of my first pens from a year or so ago. a jr gent from an old oak barrel stave.
the sierra weighs in at 42g and the gent at 35g. The sierra feels a lot weightier. whether thats the style of kit or the brand (Berea) I dont know?

Some nice looking pens there I like the Burr Oak the best but I think you have made a good match with the blank on the Diva pen but they are all very well turned and finished they are all well balanced as well
