After the problems I had with the Axi 150mm grinder a few months ago, which went back due to excessive vibrations, I'm ready to purchase another grinder. I want one for things like regrinding primary bevels and other bits and pieces. So my question is will a 150 dia wheel produce a concave profile on a chisel blade and if so is it a detriment and should I therefore go for a 200mm wheel?

John

The effective rolling radius difference between a 6" and an 8" wheel will be negligible. In most cases, concave profiling is down to the method used when grinding rather than the grinding wheel itself. If you're that worried about concave profiles invest in a wet grinder like the Sealey SMS2107.

the 200mm wheel will still grind a concave profile albeit less than a 150mm it all depends on what your sharpening i use a 200mm high speed grinder for turning tools and a slow wet stone for hand tools which gives a flat grind . ian
