Thanks J-G Never thought to look at the UNC specs. For that sort of use the difference in angle would not be a problem. Now to find a nut that size in darkest Africa :| Phil

Hi Merlin. Yes but still tight. From what I can see of the bearing number and searching it seems to be a deep groove and not angular contact. So maybe whoever changed the bearings used loctite on the nut. Am going to try heat and then some persuasion. Will keep at it until I come right. Phil

I think nicely oiled leather might be better than rubber sheets. :)

Got 2 different grits from D Way tools. Best thing I ever did. Tormek got sold off, and that paid for the wheels. Now can get a sharp edge in a fraction of the time. Way to go. In "my opinion" the Tormek (although a great machine for straight blades) is a time consumer for turning tools . Phil

Made one from an old gas cylinder. Works well but I find you have be regularly tending the feed box or it clogs and the fire goes out. Maybe the box needs to be bigger. Will experiment again next winter. Phil

I converted an old computer power supply (lots of links on the web). Works fine. Also got some carbon gouging rods from a welding supplier. They had a thin copper film which peeled off easily. They do not coat up but do make the solution black. Phil

Nice bowl, well done. I like tamboti, the grain, smell and colour is marvellous but it does not like me. I lost the sight in one eye for 3 weeks some years ago after making a bottle stopper. Still have a stash but am wary of turning it. Every time I look at the blanks I get itchy fingers. Phil

I use 4mm baltic birch ply and danish oil. Know it is slow drying but a wipe a day for 3 days is fine by me. Use those truss gang nail things to support them when drying. The little spikes leave no marks. Phil
