    Motor bike.

If he was in England it would need an MSVA (Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval) before it could be registered etc. The proccess in Ireland seems to be a little less bureaucratic. :? I'll see how he gets on. Cheers Andy

    Motor bike.

I'll keep you posted on the performance, when it actually performs! He got plenty of ribbing over the weekend as he had to bring it over in the back of a van. Something to do with the ignition. A wooden bike that would'n go Andy

    Front door construction.

Thanks Steve, Wikipedia agrees with you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortise_and_tenon It calls what I've done "Traditional through wedged tenon", and if it's done on a blind tenon "Foxtail wedging". So I'll add a note. However I would call a Traditional wedged tenon, one with wedges that go...

    Front door construction.

That could be a bit extreme for a small advantage IMO. Insulation and vapour barrier between them would increase any benefits though. from what I've seen, if a panel expands and contracts as long as this movement isn't ridgedly constrained it holds out. The only problem being the paint seal...

SS50 it's a modern bike! I've got a C200 down the cellar (1964) in need of a bit a rebuild. A friend of mine over in Ireland is building his own beast at the moment Yes! a wooden bike with wooden wheels. And he's due to be riding it over for the NAB rally in 6 weeks. Totally MAD!

    Front door construction.

I've just finished making a front door for our house. I used redwood, I'll keep an eye on any movement problems but It'll be fully painted so I'm not expecting any problems on that score. It's got through tenons with fox wedges. (twins on the bottom and middle rails). Raised panels and applied...

    Air brushes

See if you can get dual control. Press down for air and pull back for paint. It takes some getting used to but is much more controlable. Canister propellents can spit sometimes, making a real mess of job. Foot pumped bottle is great idea. 2 litre pop bottle for little jobs, 22mm plumbing...

    Building windows

Thoughts on traditional fixing. The trad linings dont have the structural strength. So the fixing should be on the cill ends and the top rail. ie. the only strong bits near the bricks. That's my starter for 10. Any advance?

    Building windows

I'm interested to know how others fix the frames in as well. The four screw have worked on mine but it wasn't exactly slick (more of bodge). It's something I didn't put much thought to. By the time I'd ripped the old window out there wasn't much time left for thinking. Glad you got the final...

    Building windows

Have a think through the final assembly. Will you have to fit the parting bead after both sashes have been fitted? It could get a bit tricky. The build is looking good Andy

    Building windows

One pocket per side is the norm, in the bottom sash side of the pulley stile, only way I've ever seen. Top sash goes in first, pull the wagtail over and fit the weight, then let the wagtail hang for fitting the bottom sash weight. Check out the geometory of the pocket length to ensure the...

"Rebate down the back of the pulley stile for the wag tail" ? It has to hang free for you to instal the weights.

    Building windows

John, It certainly has been a while, but rome wasn't built in a day either  I ended up with the standard 24mm units for cost, simplicity of supply and in the field history. It has taken some lateral thinking to fit then into nearly trad size sections, they got approval of my personal...

    Building windows

Hi John, I don't know if you've come across this thread. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26513&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=sash+windows&start=15 I've got different criteria on the design I'm working on so a lot of the details are different. eg. 24mm glazing, near...

Using a router on a wood lathe.

Don't know if this is any help. I made a Jig to hold my little router. The base plate is set in to a piece of ply and then clamped. A bit heath robinson but it worked for a one off.
