FOR SALE - 2.4m of 100mm clear dust extraction hose

If anyone is interested in buying a relatively short length (2.4m) of good quality 100mm PU dust extraction hose I've put such an item for sale on eBay (Item number 270429787029). As it says in the listing it's unused - it's left over from a longer length I bought about a year ago. Cheers...

    PU dust extraction hose length

I received a length of 4" PU dust extraction hose today, the clear one with the copper spiral in it. Bought it from a company called Auto Performance. I had ordered 5 metres however the length I've received, in it's natural form without too much stretching measures appr. 3.5 metres. If you...

    Camvac dust extractors...

I was wondering, is there anyone from Camvac watching this forum? It's just that I was browsing their web site today and I found some of their claims so hard to swallow I'd love to have a chat with them (yes, I know, I can always call them  ) In particular: 1) Filtration: They claim...

    Removing bench grinder wheel covers

I'm thinking to make a custom tool rest for my el-cheapo 6" bench grinder and was wondering whether I could remove the wheel covers - for good. My understanding is that they are there protect the user from flying pieces of metal and prevent accidental contact with a spinning wheel. However, as I...

    White Contiboard-like finish on pine

I'm making a pine bed for my younger son and am a bit worried about getting the finish right. He's sharing a room with his older brother whose bed is white, made from something like white Contiboard. Is there any way to create a similar look with pine? I'd rather use something I can spray as...

    Universal motor speeds

I was looking at the specs of different tools the other day and was wondering: is the rotation speed (rpm) of universal motors pretty much fixed as is of induction motors? For example, a router spins at 20,000 rpm, a circular saw at 4,500 and a drill at 2,800. Is this difference just achieved...

    Operation straight shed

When about 3-4 years ago I started getting interested in woodworking one of my first projects was to build a garden shed. Our garden is rather small and in two levels with an almost 45 degree slope between the two flat(ter) parts. This arrangement renders the upper part useless for anything...

Chaiwanese bandsaw upgrades - blade guides

A while ago I bought a bandsaw off eBay - a Clark 12" three-wheeler (CBS12WV). That was before I'd learnt enough about bandsaws to know better :) Anyway, the price was under £20 and I needed a benchtop one due to space constraints so I decided to stick with it. The motor is 500w and though...

    Grinder wheel replacement

Following my only partially successful attempt to grind my index finger down (see post in General Woodworking forum...) I was at least happy to see that my finger was not the only damaged party - a chip seems to have come off the grinder's wheel as well! It's not very big but I'm not feeling...

    Grinder with teeth

I've always regarded the grinder as a rather safe machine. Yes there is the risk of projectiles and wheel shattering but under normal circumstances there isn't much to worry about - or is there? Well yesterday I found out there is... I was using it to smoothen the ends of some metal bars. After...

    Wolf bench mortiser

I came across this cheap bench mortiser on eBay the other day and couldn't resist... It arrived today complete with three chisels and a sharpening kit. It's rather strange looking by modern standards, it's more like a heavy duty 1/2" drill with a mortising attachment mounted on a stand. It...

    Blade length question

It may be a silly question but does the length of the blade has to exactly match the saw manufacturer's specs? I mean, when the manual says "blade length 128mm" will it only accept 128 or can it also work with 125 or 130mm blades? 2-3mm don't sound that much to me...

    Scroll saw design

I've recently taken interest in scroll saws after realising that a bandsaw can't actually do everything I wanted... I've studied a few web sites and other sources and I think I now have a fair idea of how a scroll saw works. However I can't help wondering whether in this era of high tech...

    3/8" Butterfly air impact wrench

Anybody got one of those? I got fed up with rusted/stuck bolts while servicing my car the other day and started thinking about getting one. Do you think it would be powerful enough for stuff like wheel nuts or is it just for smaller jobs? I have a small compressor which wouldn't have enough...

    Triton - what's the fuss?

I know that I'll be probably labeled a heretic after this but I've been reading the recent threads on the hunt for "cheap" Triton routers and I can't see what the fuss is about. I played with one the other day in my local B&Q and yes it's well made and plunges smoothly but so do all good brands...

    Air impact wrench advice

This hasn't got a lot to do with woodworking but I thought I'd ask anyway... I'm looking to buy an impact wrench and already own a small 6lt 1.5hp compressor - it's specs state 8 bar, 6 cfm. I've been looking at impact wrenches and some of them state that you need a 24lt or even larger...

    Wood threader

I've recently attempted to turn a dowel into a screw but failed miserably. I'm obviously not that good at woodturning yet... However I've come across these manual woodthreaders (a tap and die set for wood) which seem easy to use and if they do indeed work as advertised should be the answer to...

    Kitchen worktop needing repair...

Well I'm in trouble now! The other day I was cleaning some rather heavy pottery in the kitchen sink  and did a pretty good job too! However, after I had finished I realised that the worktop next to the sink had "mysteriously" been scratched in a few places! (probably from pushing...

    Bandsaw tyre crown

I've recently bought a used bench bandsaw in reasonable condition. My first move was to completely disassemble it down to the last screw for cleaning, lubrication and tuning (and partly just for the fun of doing it ) I noticed the following interesting issue with the wheel tyres. The...

    T48 blade for ripping?

I'm looking to get a new ripping blade for my table saw (254mm). I've been looking around and came across this 48T Trend teflon-coated blade, advertised (by the seller) as ripping blade. (see http://www.trend-uk.com/en/UK/product/C ... 30mm+.html) 48 teeth? I thought ripping blades...
