    Mini Bowls

If you remember, I roughed out a bunch of NE bowls and such from some wood I got from the local Shinto Shrine, well, I took a stab at finishing some today, to take to Canada with me.......... Not the best pics, sorry, but I'm pressed for time. Turned out OK, I guess, just a basic wax...

    Some Bottle Stoppers

I got these kits from Craft Supplies USA, they looked neat, with the corkscrew inside the bottle stopper.......... .....but, I really, REALLY did not like the way they show these done, with the large cone shaped stopper and then the reduction in size down to the screw in part which holds the...

    My Arborist Buddy Called......

........ he says he has a nice chunk of Sakura on his truck....... do I want it.... About 4' long by 14" thick at the widest point, knarly, full of bugs, has some dirt INSIDE it and such, the tree has been standing dead for about 3 years, but there was little rot on the trunk, the part I got...

    Bedan Practice........More vids added

Well, I've been slowly getting the hang of the Bedan, I first saw this tool used by Jean-Francois Escoulen when he visited Japan in 2006, and again when he was here this fall. WAY cool tool to see in action, but not an easy one to get a handle on. If you think a skew is nasty and evil, this tool...

    More Snowman stuff............

OK, stick pens, but pens just the same.......... Two styles, with a hat and without My wife suggested that the pens were too slick, to hold easily, so I put the grip grooves in the second pen. I hope to make a few more of these, and use them as stocking stuffers! Cheers!

    How to......... Square plates

OK, this is how I'm making these small square plates. I'm not saying this is the right way, or the only way, it is just "My" way. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I could improve my method, PLEASE speak up, as I'm still learning how to do this lathe stuff I'm making fairly small plates...

    NOT Round..........NOT Flat........

Just a little square platter.......... Sorry the second pic is out of focus. About 4" square, the wood is Japanese Evergreen Oak. It is a little soft and a little too flexible for this, next time I'll use Hard Maple. This simple form is hard to do, I know it sounds funny, but really, it...

    A little Tochi-no-ki Hollow Form

I recently went to a turning meeting, one of the clubs I belong to, the meeting was mainly about how 3-phase inverters work, and maintenance on the Vicmarc VL300 (about 8 of 10 of the members have this lathe, they think I'm odd as I have a DVR 3000  ). At lunch time, we all brought out...

Hard Maple......... what do you pay?

I just got some Hard Maple, happens to be from Canada...... eh........ and I was wondering what you all pay for it. I'm in Japan, so take that into account, but I did go to the wholesaler and get this stuff, not some "Shop" ( I can do that, as I own a business). Some pics of the wood...

    Power Strop

I'm putting this in the "Hand Tools" area, as the tools being sharpened are hand tools, but if the mods think it is in the wrong place, of course, move it. A buddy of mine, Tod Evans, shared this idea with me, and this is SO good, I just had to share!! :D Basically you get a round piece of...

    The New Escoulen Eccentric Chuck

Recently Jean-Francois Escoulen from France, and Eli Avisera from Israel, came to Japan for a two day demo. Of course the demos were great, both of these guys are true masters and they are so very friendly eager to teach. One of the more interesting things we saw was the new eccentric chuck...
