    Replacement B&D battery and charger

Just a thought...I have 2 B&D drills, 12v and 7.2v. I have used a DeWalt charger on the batteries, 12v no problem, but on the 7.2, I think I had tear off a small lug on the battery, but it did charge-I don't have the original charger for this drill. Rick.

Wooden Handles...Plastic Handles...but which is best...?

I've always bought my tools for working with and not looking at, though I will admit to the odd admiring glance at my Makita impact driver! 20 years ago, I bought a 3 piece chisel set from B&Q, 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 inches. They've had some wallop and the blades are now set more firmly into the handles...

    table saws?

You've opened up a big can of worms with this topic. I guess at this price range, you are a hobbyist or diy-er, like myself. So, I'll add my twopence worth...I have a B&Q Macallister saw, bought for about £150. The mitre gauge was useless, too much slop to get an accurate cut, but I have a mitre...

Confession is good for the soul - admit your mistakes!

Bought a 5 piece pack of MDF chamfered architrave to put around a bedroom door. Cut 2 pieces for height and a third piece in half, which was further trimmed to fit above door. Stopped for lunch. You know what's coming... Picked up a fresh piece and cut in half to go above other side of door...

    jcb router

Hello...I don't use a router often enough to justify a big brand machine, so I've used several budget brands. First, a 1/4" Argos/Challenge router, still going strong after several years, much loved for its lockable on/off switch. Several B&Q own brand routers, all consigned to the scrap heap...

am I becoming a plane nut?

I have a single Stanley, no idea if it has a number, from memory, the sole is 10-12"long, bought it 25 years ago whilst living in Canada. "Jack plane comes to mind, don't know if that's right though. Tried it once, put it back in its box. Been there ever since, though the box is much faded now...

fein multimaster gets used at last!

I had a long term loan of one of these as my mate had packed in his tiling business, and I kept forgetting to return it. Quality of build was superb and the long power cable is something I wish other manufacturers would adopt. Original purpose of loan was to cut out some grout around my bathroom...

    advice please guys....re Erbauer

This brand often gets slated, but I take as I find. When my son went self-employed as a joiner, 18 months ago, I used a slush fund I'd set up for him, to kit him out. An expensive trip to Screwfix saw him pick out a large range of tools, mostly Makita or Hitachi. He picked an Erbauer half inch...

    Static when sanding

Interesting topic...My own set-up is a detached garage (workshop). I had the mains plumbed in by my prospective sun-in-law, an electrician, Part "P" etc. The mains runs from my home fusebox via a large gauge armoured cable. This runs to a small fusebox with seperate switches for lights and...

    Adirondack Chair

Nice looking chair and nice choice of wood. I also made a couple using the Popular Mechanics plans, using crappy re-claimed softwood. The P.M. chair does have a softer curve to the front of the chair, which I think looks better. Just so long as they're comfortable though. Have you thought of...

    JCB tools

For the same money, try the Erbauer 2100 watt router from Screwfix. It'a a beast, but I've cut a lot of worktops with it and, touchwood, it's running fine. Seems better equpped than the JCB too.

    Myford PR11 Planing machine

Hello, had one of these myself a few years ago, since sold on. I wrote to Myford who sent me a phot copy of the manual and parts/price list. Give them a try, hope this helps. Rick.

    Ferm FTZ-250 table saw

I can sympathize, I own a cheap B&Q saw that was pretty awful fresh out of the box. However, all is not lost. Here's a few tips that helped me make this a reasonable saw, bearing in mind, I mainly work with softwoods... First, I got a decent blade, just for ripping, I think my latest is a 24...

    Thinking of upgrading my SCMS

My son and I both have B&Q own brand SCMS's. The lad has the larger 210mm blade. The supplied blade was awful, but replaced with a better quality one, gives a lovely cut. His saw is carried around in his van, but, checked with a decent sqare, is still spot on at 90/45, about the only angles he...

    Planters and raised beds.

Thanks for reading. I'm going to put a poly liner in, or rather, she is. Cheers. Rick.

    Planters and raised beds.

Hi everyone...SWMBO wants to grow some veg, but I wanted to check with you first. I have made her some planters, from left over treated decking, she wants to put tomatoes in these. She also wants a "gazebo" taking down, and the wood recycling to surround some raised beds. This wood was treated...

    I bought a new saw

In my dreams. And, is that a 36" belt sander in the background? Hmm..let's move over to the sanding station. Thanks Norm. Lovely workshop, thanks for the glimpse. Rick.

The possession of illegal timber a criminal offence

I would think that we, on this forum, buy our stock from (reputable) yards, not from some shady bloke on a dimly lit backstreet. Recycling of wood not included. If this helps combat illegal logging, then I'm all for it. Anyway, who would police it? Rick.
