    Spiral router bits for dovetail jig

    Making a jig for cutting through dovetails on a router table. Works well but it seems very easy to get tear-out. Particularly on one side of the cut as the blade is leaving the wood on that side. Does anyone here use spiral cutter bits for this? Do they help? Edit: Can you even get spiral...

    Oak Table Top

    Could use some advice on building a pair of simple oak tables around 1400mm x 750/800mm with 30-40mm tops or at least tops that look that thick. I originally looked at buying an oak worktop or similar panel but they seem expensive compared to assembling my own which I've not done before. So main...

    Axminster TS200 mitre slots

    Is it possible to get rails/runners/accessories to fit the non-standard 15mm wide slots that this TS has? Otherwise I'm tempted to see if I can get a local engineering firm to machine them out to take a 3/4" track (assuming there is enough metal in the cast table).

    Working in green oak

    Got an 18 foot long oak beam arriving next week so I guess I'd better figure out how to work it! How do experts cut your 2" wide mortices? Google suggests the obvious method of drilling holes and squaring up with a chisel but what sizes holes do you go for? One site recommends using a 2"...

    White oak -> Honey colour

    I have a piece of wood which I'm pretty sure is American White Oak. I would like to turn it the classic golden honey colour but looking for suggestions on how best to do that. Has anyone out there used Coloured Osmo Polyx on American White Oak? How did it turn out? I have some European oak...

    Sketchup rotate tool Q

    I'm wasting a lot of time trying to get the rotate tool to work right. How do I force it to rotate about a particular axis (eg the reg axis)? I know you can hold the shift key down to make the current axis sticky but I can't get the portractor to offer me the red axis in the first place! No...

    Oak shed windows

    Anyone know if it's possible to buy oak window frames suitable for a shed? Not an ordinary shed. This one's in a conservation area and will be clad in 1" thick waney edge boards. I'm reasonably handy and could probably make them but it would be nice to find some sill mouldings or ?? to reduce...

    I'll need to sharpen my plane...

    Which saw for shed build.

    I have a 190mm Bosch 1200W circular saw and have been thinking of buying some more tools. Next job will be to build a "shed" which will involve cutting 6 x 2 rafters and quite a bit of framing. Upto now most of what I've done is smaller scale. With a budget of around £200. What would you...

    Use of sliding compound mitre saw

    Perhaps this is a question for people who frame roofs or do other large scale work... Say you need to cut lots of 90 degree half lap joints in 6" oak. Is this something you would use a sliding compound mitre saw for or would you use a circular saw? I've not owned a compound mitre saw and I'm...

    Currently waiting for planning permission to build green oak framed shed the size of a single horse stable.
