Table Saw Harvey HW110LGE-30 Imported and Reviewed

Hi there, I couldn't resist adding to this thread as i got the same saw from Woodford nearly two years ago,and it has had plenty of use. I was initially disappointed with a bit of vibration...it 'just' failed the coin test. But Woodford sent me a new set of belts which fixed that. I can now rip...

    Sound containment in workshop

Nick,Yes, i think maybe I'm being over considerate. All my neighbours are lovely (i live in a little hamlet of mainly barn conversions n old cottages) we all help each other out but my nearest neighbour is a total bar steward and nobody likes him...he lets his grandson race around his field...

    Sound containment in workshop

Hi there and a happy creative new year to all. I've read quite a few posts about sound proofing workshops, but this perhaps is a little different, hence the title "sound containment". I built mine 8 years ago, with 125mm of insulation in walls and roof, ply lined walls and plasterboard ceiling...

    Dust extraction duct size?

Thanks matt, but i want to stick with plastic (cheaper and easier to modify). I am considering butchering two Y pieces to make a 3-way splitter to connect to the blower inlet which will point downwards, each with a blast gate. This will suit my pipe run directions really well and allow for...

    Dust extraction duct size?

Thanks for that greg. I've found nice 125 Y's from charnwood or poolewood, rigid pipe, not so good Y's,and 45's from fantronix. Bit of flexi and I'm good to go! My system will have really short runs and only a little bit of flexi so should work very well. Thanks anyway Cheers Jules

    Dust extraction duct size?

Thanks for your thoughts. As my DE has 5" ports, i wont be going smaller than that for my ducting, except to reduce to 4" at the machine. I can however stay at 5" for my TS as i am able to make a 5" port to replace the 4" it came with. The only challenge is to find some streamlined Y's , and...

    Dust extraction duct size?

Matt roberts thanks , just what i needed to hear! My gut feeling has been 125 as far as poss (as the DE ports are 125 and seemed daft to immediately restrict to 100/110) it's just the lack of 125 fittings options that made me doubt... That has really helped me with my decision Cheers Jules

    Dust extraction duct size?

Thanks robert. My research shows me,though, that with 110 I'll get more velocity (good for shavings/chips) And larger pipe I'd get higher flow rate (m3/min...good for fine dust)

    Dust extraction duct size?

Hi all. I really tried not to ask.. I'm sure it can be a tedious subject that has been much discussed but I've been going round in circles and can't decide! So some advice pleeese. I have a 2hp HVLP blower venting to outside. It has 5" in and out ports so i have been looking at what 5" pipe and...

Dust extraction for table saw..HVLP or LVHP??

Thanks skinnyB. Very interesting! When you say the shroud..do you mean under the blade or over? I'm guessing over, and the bottom cover is for guiding the dust up to your over blade DE/guard,and perhaps also preventing trunions, gears and cabinet in general getting covered in dust. Eoinsgaff...

Dust extraction for table saw..HVLP or LVHP??

Ok steve, you got me there! I have no excuses. Safety is paramount..just because i have used a table saw for 20 years, and chainsaws for 30 years, and never been 'bitten' by either, doesn't mean it wont happen one day. Back to my question regarding under table DE, my thoughts are that LVHP with a...

Dust extraction for table saw..HVLP or LVHP??

Hi pac..although that's not an answer to my query regarding DE, it's a fair question! I guess i seldom use a crown guard for the same reasons that others don't. It gets in the way,i can see what's going on better without one, and i can't use it anyway when using my crosscut sled, mitre sled,or...

Dust extraction for table saw..HVLP or LVHP??

The DE on my table saw is non existent. I have a 2hp HVLP connected to the 100mm port at the bottom of the saw. All it does is stop the cabinet filling up with dust above the port! On close inspection of the blade, arbor, trunnions, cogs and general assembly within, I'm pretty confident that I...

    Warco 2b5/2b12 pillar drills

Yes,buying new is a more comfortable option for me; and anyway,i can't find anything used within reasonable driving distance. This is a great learning curve..I'm an experienced woodcarver aiming to expand my skillset and capabilities with some new toys! I will let you know how i get on. Many...

    Warco 2b5/2b12 pillar drills

Ah thanks. Given that i have never owned (and hardly ever used) a pillar drill, i guess (after doing a reasonable amount of research) i come on here to have my hunch as to what to buy, either reenforced by others opinions and experiences of a product, or to be persuaded not to buy it. Because, in...

    Warco 2b5/2b12 pillar drills

Thanks Mike. Shame it's too far for me to go look at these drills. The depth stop looks like the threaded rod type. As this will be my first pillar drill,I'm not sure whether that would bother me. As for accuracy,i wouldn't know until i received it! Two of the axi trade series are basically the...

    Warco 2b5/2b12 pillar drills

Hi there Anyone had experience with these? It looks like a commonly seen design, sold under various brands. The larger 2b12 looks identical to one of the axi trade ones (axi is same spec but with new belt system and an led...and £100 more!). I just don't want to go round in circles, looking at...

    Table saw...Axi AW10 or xcalibur HW 110 LGE ??

Thanks mike. Yes,I realised that after I posted. The 16A socket was just a connector. NOT having a 13A fuse in the power supply was what fixed it. Cheers Jules

    Table saw...Axi AW10 or xcalibur HW 110 LGE ??

It did, Mike! I needed a 16 amp socket o connect to the 16 amp plug on the saw, and basically spurred off the ring circuit via a dp switch.(as hot stuff suggested) This is a temporary but safe connection until my spark friend can come round,so I can play with my new toy! I remember seeing a vid...
