    I got an aluminium rule from Wickes and found the markings rub off so I've wrapped it in sellotape and almost never used it since.

    The biodegradable stuff is made from veg oil and has a habit of setting like veg oil. It's ok if you use the saw often but left for a few weeks it clogs up the pump.

    Lidl power tools this week.

    The thinner is xylene. I always buy a tin when they have it in. Good for all sorts of things besides thinning paint.

    Rot

    Obviously all woods rot eventually but birch seems to be the worst for turning to pith in the blink of an eye. Thanks for the advice, I'll do some googling now.

It's bloody awful: the fence is wobbly, the top is warped, only 3 legs touch the ground, various bits of plastic guard broke and the motor is woefully underpowered.     Hi, I've just turned a small box from spalted ash but a small area is actually rotten. Is there a way of stabilising the soft rotten part?
