MDF fixing suggestions for assembly of unit.

In the past, I have constructed all of my projects out of softwood pine. I'm now looking to make a floor to ceiling cupboard with sliding doors for the small bedroom out of MDF. As I don't have any workspace at my house, the unit will be constructed in my mum's Garage where I do all my other...

    Types of wood for panels

Building a storage unit for my daughter. The finished piece will be painted. This time I want to rebate some panels in to the frame for the sides of the unit, more of a decorative feature. Since the unit is to be painted would you recommend plywood sheeting for the inserts? I'm still...

My first wood project box is showing gaps between the joins

I made a large storage box for the kitchen over a year ago. It was my first wood project. Yesterday I noticed gaps between the joins. I also created the inlay panels by using strips of wood at the time to try and create the effect of one large board, but I also noticed gaps appearing here too. I...

    Bedroom Cupboard with Sliding Doors

Just need some advice. We have such wasted space in our bedroom I was thinking of building a floor to ceiling cupboard along the whole wall with sliding doors. We have so much stuff, it would be nice just to put everything in there and forget about it and keep things tidy. What I was thinking...

Things I'm learning as a novice

Go easy on pencil marks, go easy on filler, because the biggest pain for me has been the sanding at the end. On. the next project, I might sand the pieces as I go along.

Can anyone recommend a wood filler. Just built a bookcase and need to fill the countersunk holes. Used softwood pine, so filler needs to be quite light. I did try sawdust and glue but I need quite a lot.

Bought a Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

I have been getting in to woodwork over the last year and recently built a wooden box for the kitchen to sling all the shoes and bags in, since I live in a new build and storage space is at a minimum. I'm in the process of now building a bookcase and a bench seat with storage underneath for...

    Peel and Stick Veneer

My next project is to build a floor to ceiling wardrobe for the small room. Because of the size of the room I would like to put in sliding doors. I will build the initial frame and then attach to the wall and build off that. Obviously the plan was to go with all wood for the sides and doors...

    Covering Mdf

Thinking of building some floor to ceiling unit in the spare room as there is a lot of wasted space. Would build frame out of softwood and screw to existing walls. Doors would be Mdf, it's the finish I'm not sure about. Can I wrap these so that it gives the doors a wood effect.

    Varnish Smell Wooden Box

I have made a large wooden box with lid for the kitchen to put our shoes and bags in. It's my first project and has been a great learning curve. I finished the unit yesterday inside and out with clear varnish. I put the box in the kitchen this evening, and when I opened the lid the varnish...
