Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

Ok, this how my head is turning at the mo, Wood burning stove with back boiler ( wood is everywhere here, loads of forests etc) linked to lpg combi boiler, Solar panels when I can afford it. Is that possible, or is the combi boiler a stand alone system? My reasoning. Wood pellets...

Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

Digit, how much is it for a litre of LPG in comparison to oil now in the uk, and are the prices for the boilers themselves comparable? I would have thought that the reliability of the LPG would have been better too with a cleaner combustion process.

Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

Yes sir Digit, I shall endevour to do better sir  thank you sir, Actually you are quite right. In the workshop I am currently making a huge set of 3m X 3m windows with openers for a barn door frontage, and here I am terrified by a bunch of radiators. I think what it is ,is that there...

Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

Over here the installation of an oil or gas tank has its problems. With the gas tank installation you are tied to a contract to the company for years after, and for the oil tank it is the price of the installation, concrete pad, and then the location which puts me off. The price for a litre of...

Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

hmmm, hadn't thought of LPG.... I really am cringing at the installation costs of everything over her. I am here full time now, on my own at the present ( divorce and 'orrible stuff since I last posted,) It might be that Rodger's idea of solar panels for the hot water and the backboiler...

Heating systems in France. Just toooo interesting!!!

Thanks Roger, Just as I feared. Really complicated. I thought that the latest of the latest electric boilers working on a cheap tariff might have been acceptable, but I take your point entirely. I do have south facing roof space ( about 270msq) but I have found the initial cost of the...

    Compass planes- errr, help

I suppose I meant that with a plane there will be less deviation from the arc of the curve, whereas with a spokeshave there is more room to go wrong as the cut of the blade is not dictated to by the arc of the sole....perhaps. :? :? I think that's what I mean...perhaps, Decklan.

    Compass planes- errr, help

Thanks guys for the info, and yes Derek you are right , I meant to say curves and not angles. I will keep to the aforementioned 30degrees. Good advice I'm sure. The record sounds like the one for me if the test is down to handsize. I struggle like mad with txting on modern mobile phones...

Disaster with a trend diamond stone

I bought a trend diamond stone a couple of years ago, after the first couple of sharpenings on it It went the way of the earlier photo's, i.e bald. I returned the stone and the replacement has been in frequent use both in the workshop and on site. I always ensure that I thoroughly clean the...

    Compass planes- errr, help

So now I have some compound angle shapes to make and the only tool for the job for the finishing that I can see is a compass plane, only thing is I have never used one and know sweet fanny adams about them, i.e, cutting angles (do they change with the different amount of flex in the sole? and...

    Bigger bandsaws...

Actually I'm back in the uk for a short time, finishing some work at my folks house and busy buying tools. France just does not have the range that u.k has, and with the weak pound, it is cheaper for me to buy here and ship them back to my workshop in France. I'll check out the other forum...

    Bigger bandsaws...

Can anyone be more specific about their experiences with any of these bandsaws, particularly the Record BS500, the N4400, and the jet series- especially the mark 1 16+18. I have an offer of a mark 1 jet 18 going for £700 in as new nick, just dont know which one of the above to go for. What...

    please, please...watch this and weep!!

I had a girlfriend who was a classically trained ballerina. Just watching some of the training was incredible. The routines were so physically demanding, and the amount of pain that they were always in was hoffific. Going on to 'points' -(on the tips of their toes,) was incredibly demanding...
