    Door opening enlargement when framing

If you like you can put a collar tie on all of the rafters, depending on the weight of the roof covering that might be overkill. IMHO, you can probably get away with a single tie just above the door header at the front, and nail/screw through the header into it. N.B.: I've assumed that the wall...

    Door opening enlargement when framing

I wouldn't have a vertical support for the ridge down to the door header as you have it. That can only deflect the header and cause problems later. Rather, have a horizontal tie across the top of the header between the rafters either side. This will form a triangle across the end which will...

Flattening and jointing warped scaffold boards

You're making work for yourself there, given the outcome you're aiming for. Make the table top by screwing boards down to 2 cross-wise members to keep them together, then screw the legs on. Place the table on a flat surface and identify which leg is short/long and by how much by packing it with...

    incredible wooden vehicle

I'm not sure if it's the same mechanism, but it looks very similar to Theo Jansens strandbeests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM4q-f68TlY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYGJ9jrbpvg

    router help

I have the GMF1600 CE. I was attracted to it because it came with the two bases. I have the fixed base mounted in my table, and it's very quick and easy to drop the motor housing out to change the bit or to swap over to the plunge base. I find that I only use the above-table adjustment (with...

    insulation

It may depend on your wall construction - can you tell us more about how the wall is constructed. As a general rule the vapour barrier (i.e.: your plastic membrane) wants to be on the warm side of the insulation.

    Kity 609 Manual

Hello, Does anyone have a manual for a Kity 609, or know who the current UK distributor is who may be able to help me with that? Cheers.

    Shed build (WIP)

I enjoyed that every bit as much as I thought I would. One question though, it doesn't look like you've insulated the brick at all, which seems like an omission given that the rest of the shed looks to be well insulated. Are you planning to add any?

Species of wood with very nice grain / colouring?

I've only ever carved spoons from green wood. You might find it hard work carving seasoned wood by hand with knives.

advice needed for motorhome worktop construction

I've done a few of these, and whilst weight definitely is an issue to be considered when building furniture for motorhomes, the amount of weight saved by using lightweight board for the worktop is minimal. Certainly not enough to consider using more expensive specialist board. I say this...

A pain of a location for a work shop

Is it possible to include the walls in the structure as I did? ( workshop-build-t83272.html ) Or perhaps SIP based? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structural_insulated_panel

Using bendy ply in my design

I think you'll have to post the photos or a drawing to get any useful advice. I'm struggling to visualise what it is you're proposing. Either shrink the photo filesize (ensure they are saved as jpeg, and resize the resolution down to 800 x 600) or try uploading to photobucket rather than using...

    Workshop Build

Spot on there, chap! I'd designed the pitch before settling on the roofing material. I think it's advisable to have *some* pitch to avoid standing water. That said, I'm not aware of any reason why EPDM can't be used on a completely flat roof - it is also used as a pond/swimming pool liner...

    Workshop Build

Not difficult to get hold of. I rang around a few places near me for the best price and went with FGF Ltd, in Birmingham. Who were about 10% cheaper than Vivalda (the other Birmingham stockist). FGF did free delivery to Leicester as well. I can't remember off hand how much the individual...

    Workshop Build

Sorry, I missed your questions earlier Paul. Internal size is 2.8m x 4.8m. If I'm honest, I wish that I had tracked costs a bit better. I could have sworn that I was keeping receipts, but I can't find them now :( The building work was ~£1000. That included building the new walls and some...
