    Bench Grinder recommedation

Of all my bench mounted tools, my Bench Grinder is the one that gets the most use.. I have gradually upgraded my tools over the years but still have a small, cheap grinder which works well, but I wonder if I can do better. To be fair, it works fine... Spins up quickly and I have a load of...

Aldi Ferrex Bandsaw tension varies as it rotates.

I was going to add this to the Aldi Bandsaw thread, but it hasn't been updated in months, so I hope you don't mind me starting a new thread. After missing out on the Aldi Bandsaw in Dec/Jan as I was moving, it came up again (And as of today is still in stock).. I ordered one for me and a friend...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I have just taken a chance on a B&D BD-339 Bandsaw off eBay and it arrived today and its a bit of a mess unfortunately. I have no doubt that its salvageable but in its current condition I fear I paid over the odds.. But it was a gamble so I just need to move on. The biggest problem is that the...

    Axminster HBS250N dimensions

I was tempted to buy a HBS205N, but I have been seduced by the positive comments about the 250. But I need to know the dimensions.. And since it comes on a pedestal its not easy to see the size. I don't need the ped and was planning to bench mount it.. So could anyone give me the dimensions...

Are ANY of the cheap BandSaws adequate?

I have some space on my bench (Where my old Lidl pillar drill was (before I found myself a floor standing Fobco)) and fancy the idea of a cheap bandsaw. Clearly, after looking around, the cheap makes are pretty much the same, and many are just re-baded versions of each other.. And there isn't a...

Slight wobble on in Fobco Star

A few months back I managed to get a Fobco Star for a good price.. It was used in a woodwork shop and was very dirty.. But it cleaned up nicely and I am over the moon with it. But a few days ago, I had to drill some holes and used one of the new (cheap) bits I bought of eBay.. I felt a...

I want to remove/clean/oil the chuck on my Fobco and assumed it was a Morse Taper and i needed a drift... But there is no slot in the quill? What does this mean? Is it not a MT? If so, how do i take the chuck off? Jon

Has anyone fitted an NVR switch INSIDE a Fobco Star?

Just got a Fobco Star and am itching to improve it. I want to remove the existing power switch and replace it with an NVR. The logical choice would be to screw this to the side.. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-li ... nvr-switch But its bulky and I like the idea of keeping it all...

How to check a Pillar Drill bearings

Hi.. After a frustrating couple of months trying to find a Pillar drill, I have just bought a Fobco, which was slightly more than I wanted to spend, but local, so the fuel costs are lower than I budgeted for.. I havn't seen it yet, so I have agreed to buy based on the descriptions/photos.. It...

Changing the Motor on a Fobco Drill Press

Looking at a 3 phase Fobco, and wondering how much work it would be to swap the motor to a single phase.. Found a 1400rpm 1/2hp motor on Ebay for about £60.. But how much work is required.... I guess the key point are 1. Mounting the motor. Shouldn't be too hard to modify the mounting brackets...
