MAC Timbers Open Day - 26th May

I have, most recently with Elm and brown Oak. Good choice, will plane for you if required, and he's a nice bloke. I think all of his timber is from within 25 miles, and he does the lot from tree to boards himself. I missed most of the last open day due to local flooding. By the time I'd found...

    Axminster Routalift

eek, I don't know what to say, but I'll start with sorry. I check the forums every day, to the point of addiction. However, I didn't spot a reply, and added to that I didn't receive any emails telling me I had one. After that I completely forgot I'd asked here (Axminster gave me an answer - the...

    Axminster Routalift

Hi, I've somehow managed to lose the set of insert rings/reducers that came with my Axminster Routalift. I've tried Axminster, who've been really helpful trying to track some down, but no joy yet. I think it may have been made by Jessem. My one is black with white writing - it says...

    Workbench top glue

Thanks for the replies so far.... I thought about doing it in sections, but I'm sure I read somewhere that this would lead to trouble. I've no idea where I read that (maybe I'm imagining it), or what could go wrong. Added to this, I don't have a big enough flat area to do the construction...

    Workbench top glue

Hi all, I've started making my first workbench, loosely based on Paul Sellers one, with the legs flush to the front of the top and a front apron with holes in, in case I need to clamp things down at the front. I've decided to not have a tool well though. So far I've planed and thicknessed 14...

    Very old stair treads

Hi, thanks for replying. I thought I was asking a bit much. The treads aren't too bad, and they look nice bare. I think what I'm after is some kind of finish that won't wear too quickly, and that will enhance the grain. But I guess most importantly won't be slippy. Cheers, John

    Very old stair treads

Hi, We're in the process of renovating a very old farm house, and I'm currently doing the entrance hall, stairs and landing. The stairs have been stripped of a few hundred years of grime and many coats coats of paint and are back to bare wood. Can anybody reccomend a finish that will...

    Workshop windows

Hi, I've just made some new windows for my workshop. They are made out of some sort of untreated soft wood (from a local orange DIY super shed), and are double glazed. It's the first time I've done anything like this, and I'm not sure if I need to treat them with some sort of preservative...
