    clamping question

Marc, for jobs like this I have prepared some sqare plywood sheets. Three or four of them fixed in the frame should take care that everything is parallel. I would not trust the measuring from the clamp to the frame as the clamp will be bending during the clamping process. Nice progress of...

    Das Blog? -- somewhat OT

Gerard, did you discuss this during the Oktoberfest after your third round of Maß? Basically "das" Blog is correct (das Internettagebuch) but it is also allowed to say "der" Blog. Sometimes even the Germans are a little flexible :D  (especially during the Octoberfestseason :D )...

Finer waterstones stored in water : acceptable or not ?

Bonjour Pompon, I keep all my waterstones in water all the time. So they are ready any minute to sharpen my irons. In order to avoid that they get in contact with the mud on the bottom I cut a 120 mm plastic tube (for waste water) in two halves so that I get a half pipe. In this half pipe I...

    Making a hammer handle

That was exactly the explanation given. Can´t recall which side to show to the face. Sorry if the wording right and left side of the tree is not common in England. We call right side the side which shows to the center.

    Making a hammer handle

Hi Alf, nice and detailed report. Who ever even tried to fittle a broom-stick knows that this is not so easy. I admit that I prefer to buy the hammer stick  reason is lack oftime and hickory. Now my question: is it also important to follow the rule like an axe handle. I was told that...
