    The Joys of Old Houses

My house was obviously built before the right angle was invented. We had the whole house surveyed and apparently there’s one right angle hidden in a built in wardrobe in my son’s room. I’m building a drawer unit for shoes in the hallway, so I thought I’d use a method I’ve always wanted to try...

    Advice on drawer runners needed

Not sure if this is the right section, but... I’m building a drawer in my hall for storing shoes and I’m getting lost in the apparently never-ending complexity of Blum drawer runners. I’m looking to make a double height drawer with a second drawer inside (see example pic below). The drawer...

    46 minutes of beautiful craftsmanship

I happened by this video today. Ruedi Kohler makes a bucket. Doesn’t sound too appealing, but it’s one of the best craftsman videos I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen more than a few). He was an 87 year old Swiss cooper when it was recorded in 1992 and he makes a curved wooden milking bucket entirely...

    Elliptical shelves WIP

Not sure I’ve ever posted anything I’ve made from wood here, I’ve always been too embarrassed by my efforts, so I thought I should break my duck. I need some shelves for my bedroom and this circular unit caught my eye. Except...the space I have isn’t suitable for a circular shape, so I...

22mm Baltic Birch Ply in Southern UK?

I have a friend trying to source some 22mm Baltic birch ply for a speaker build. Anyone know of a supplier in the south? He is making these speakers... http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/ScanSpeak-3W-Discovery.htm And he isn't a woodworker, so he needs a supplier that can do cutting.

Repair to HiFi speaker veneer...advice needed

A friend has managed to damage his speaker by dropping it on the corner... Any thoughts on how to repair? Will he need a full replacement of the veneer? Approximate commercial cost? He is in that London...with a glum face!

Trying to track down a website

About three or four years ago I stumbled upon a website for a woodworker from the Netherlands or Belgium. He was producing furniture using only hand tools (often Japanese). He posted videos of himself working without commentary or music, just the stereo on in the background playing classical...

    Woden vice quick release problem

Just acquired an old Woden vice (Ideal 189/2): It's a great big lump of iron and I reckon it's got real potential, but there's a problem with the quick release. It won't tighten. I'm not familiar with this type of QR, but it looks like the sprung bar is in the wrong position and doesn't hold...

    More wooden moulding planes...info needed

Picked up some old tools from a bloke locally who does renovation of old buildings. Still working through them, but there are three old moulding planes that look interesting. Any information about the makers or what type of moulding they would be used for would be appreciated: 1) T.Okines...
