Glue for mending cracked wheelie bin?

I have a council green garden bin with two cracks. I have bought a tool which heats up staples and which are then used to hold them the cracks closed. That is fine but I want it to be leak proof so need a glue that will actually bond the crack closed as well. Anyone done this with success please?

    Glue(?) for Thin Patio Slabs

I have a concrete area about 5 sqm outside our back door from which steps lead down to our patio. The patio is slabbed, the concrete and steps are bare. I have found slim slabs which can be laid on this concrete area and the backdoor can still swing open but won't have sufficient clearance for a...

    Folding Leg Desk

My wife has been working from home since Covid on a folding plastic table which is not so attractive in our lounge (apparently!) She wants the same design - the four legs fold in each side and then the table folds completely in half thus containing the folded legs so it’s easily stored when...

I need a media-blaster for paint/rust removal from motorcycle parts. I have seen YT reviews on this model which is sold under many brands it seems. Does anyone have any experience of these please?

    Compressor Query?

I am about to buy a compressor and the manufacturer says I can’t use an extension lead. It needs a 16a supply which I have for my planer/thicknesser. The P/T runs through an extension lead of about 2m. Why can I not use an extension lead for the compressor? What about just removing the existing...

    Treating Hardwood Fire-door with BLO?

I have a rental property, which I am decorating between tenants, with a new hardwood fire-door which looks ‘bare’ in red wood finish. Rather than paint it I thought I would oil it with boiled linseed oil since I have some to hand. I wiped it over with a damp cloth to see what it would look like...

Cashplus Bank Unsolicited Card in Post

I received a Cashplus Bank Mastercard in the post yesterday with a separate letter confirming my PIN. I have never heard of this bank and certianly did not order a card. What worries me know is that someone has ordered one in my name as an additional card holder? I have been on hold for so long...

    Virgin Media Email Issue

Virgin Media have a major issue with their email service this week. Whilst I am now able to send and receive again, I do not have access to historic emails. They tell me I am one of the few that are affected in this way and will sort it by next week. Out of interest has anyone else been told...

    Tongue and Groove Cutting

Just about to cut lengths of tongue and groove in softwood using a trend router cutter. I read in the instructions to stagger the two cutters when cutting the tongue although I don’t recall doing that last time I used it. Should I set them at 90 degrees to each other or not bother?

    Wenge Dowel

Somewhere in my workshop is a dowel plate but I cannot find it and I need 5mm wenge dowel to cover recessed 5mm magnets as lid closures on a small wenge box. Any ideas where I can buy some please anyone? I’m not sure Wenge would survive hammering through a dowel plate anyway as it’s so brittle...

    Gloss Finish on a Box

My late father left his prized watch to my youngest son. My father bought the watch in 1941 with his first ever pay packet from the RAF and he kept it in perfect condition and working order ever since! Rather than just giving it to my son I thought I would make a watch box with the watch brand...

Exterior Oak - Treat or Not?

I refurbished an old cast-iron ended bench four years ago (photos attached). I replaced the wooden slats with oak which I treated with Osmo WR Base Coat followed by Osmo UV Protection Oil. I was hoping that the coats would stand the test of time and weather but it turned out they meant it when...

    Douglas Fir Five-bar Gate issue

I have nearly finished a douglas fir five-bar gate, made from old boards I have saved for years for such a project. Just front cross braces to be fitted. The issue is going to be finding stainless steel hanging furniture as the high acetic acid content precludes me using steel, even galvanised...

    Advice on Firedoors

I have a couple of flats in a block and their front doors need replacing with firedoors. I have had a quote which seems expensive but it may be fair! Does anyone here fit firedoors? Is this a fair price do you think? To Supply: Certified Sapele veneered solid core FD30 doors lipped all round...

    Beginning Carving

I want to try carving, having never tried it, as I can see how it may be another string to my bow in my woodworking. I want to carve patterns, letters, rope borders, etc. but not carving figures. I would like to start in a small way in terms of hand-tools, starting with the basic essentials and...

    Unsorted Joinery Grade

Why do timber merchants refer to their joinery grade timber as ‘unsorted’? Surely if they have selected the best timber for joinery purposes then they have ‘sorted’ out the good stuff? Or am I missing something here?
