The wife just bought me this..........I'll tell her later.

It's not a sliding saw unless I'm mistaken so there shouldn't be any flex on the slide :-)

    Material for Jigs?

Personally I think it depends on: How long you expect it to last Will it be used again?; and if so:How often you will use it No point in using high-quality materials if you're going to use it once, or just now and then.

    Any music types on here?

Welcome (from a relative newbie too)! I'm a guitarist and singer and occasionally still pick up my trumpet. I also work in the music recording industry for an equipment manufacturer. How about you?

    A Possible Work Light

It's an LED bulb. 3W should be similar to like a 30W halogen bulb. Assuming you position it close to the work I think it will be fine. And as it's a standard GU10 fitting, you could fit any halogen or LED bulb you choose providing the fitting is up to the power. I will probably buy a few of...

More stuff at Lidle this week UPDATED

The video is funny! I thought these look quite good: http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-249 ... l&id=20979 Could be useful in the workshop by the bandsaw or pillar drill.

    (Another) Workbench Build!

Looks great. Always nice to use reclaimed wood and keep the costs down. Do you have (or need) any provision for levelling the bench if the floor's uneven? Also, is that the Ryobi impact driver? If so, how do you find it? I'm considering getting it as I have a £75 B&Q voucher...

    Could it be a fake?

Excessive dust release from table saw

According to Axminster's info the saw requires a minimum of 500m^3 per hour of extraction. Perhaps the extractor just isn't up to it?

    Rutlands Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Has anyone got any experience of this saw? It's on offer right now for only £99.95... supposedly reduced from £250 additionally by spending another 5p the price would come down by 5% Seems like a good deal: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+254mm-sliding-compound-mitre-saw+DK6726

    quieter extraction

You could certainly place a digital thermometer probe inside the enclosure to allow you to monitor the temperature. Now I'm out of hospital it's much easier for me to find some links. Here's a video/article on Finewoodworking...

    Ujk pocket hole jig

Now that's a cracking idea. I can see how keeping my UJK jig in the bench mount while having the mini kreg jig would be handy anyway. OP: here's a link to the jig on Amazon...

    quieter extraction

My shop vacs are certainly cooled by the air drawn in through the hose. One thing to note is that each 90 degree bend in your exhaust baffle/channel decreases the airborne noise in the exhaust by either 3 or 6dB (can't remember which). However it will also increase the air resistance that the...

    quieter extraction

When I can get to a computer I'll link to a couple of videos and designs. You ought to be able to reduce the sound pressure level from (what I assume will be) about 90dBA to about 80dBA. That's well over a halving of reduction in SPL. It's worth reading the science behind sound absorption to...

    quieter extraction

I'm recovering from surgery right now and posting from my phone, so I can't easily link to any examples. However a quick Google will find examples of others who have done exactly what you want. Essentially you build a cabinet to house the vacuum and line it with a dense sound absorbing foam...
