    Rebar into oak sleeper

I guess a way around the staining would be to go with stainless steel rods instead?

    Rebar into oak sleeper

How far around the steel do you think it'll stain? As the steel will be in the base going against the ground it won't be visible on any faces that are showing.

    Rebar into oak sleeper

Thanks AJB Temple. Used CT-1 and also their 'Power Grab and Bond' stuff in the past. Didn't realise it could be used for this application. It's actually mostly just a border edge however I'd like to have as much of the width (190mm or 215mm) protruding on the lawn side. The other side will be a...

    Rebar into oak sleeper

Hello all, I need to fix some 25mm rebar into oak sleepers (3-4 lengths of rebar into each 2400mm length of sleeper). The rebar will be approx 125-150mm deep into each of the oak sleepers and protrude around 600-700 and be buried into the ground through a course of pea shingle (approx 50mm) and...

Front door canopy - treated or untreated

Rodders - thanks for the heads up. Is there something else that's waterbased which the Ronseal would take to that I could use beforehand instead?

Front door canopy - treated or untreated

The people who want the canopy want it stained in a rich mahogany so as to match (as close as) the framework of their front door and window. I'll be sure to do a good few coats of Cuprinol and allow the required drying time before staining it. Looking at some Ronseal stain at the moment and...

Front door canopy - treated or untreated

phil.p - thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to source some Cuprinol or similar as well.

Front door canopy - treated or untreated

I'm building a small canopy to go over my front door out of 4x2 and 3x2 and was wondering on whether it's still ok to go with untreated timber as it will be stained/protected once complete? Any suggestions or advice is welcome. Thanks

    Type of loft hatch

Hello all, I'm looking to replace my loft hatch with one that has an intergrated ladder but has a pull cord fitted to open up the hatch. I've been search the web for such a combination but can't seem to come across any. Does such a type exist?

    Low frame bed

Slats are made from redwood pine, and are 44x19mm. Aside from the slats would it be wise to apply an oil to the Iroko? If so what would be recommended?

    Low frame bed

Thanks for the responses. Am I right in assuming then that it's only for ease of removal that the slats be left loose?

    Low frame bed

I'm building a king size low bed frame. From the ground it rests on 6x100mm feet (3 on each of the long lengths). I have a centre rail and then 1450mm slats across. Would I be ok with using a paslode (and maybe some glue) to secure the slats? Or should I screw these down? Oh....Merry Christmas...

    Cost of Iroko

Many thanks both of you for your replies. I don't really know the going rate for Iroko so just wanted to be sure it sounded about right. How long should I leave Iroko before working on it?

    Cost of Iroko

Hello all, I'm looking at purchasing some hardwood (Iroko) for a bed frame I'm making. My cutting list is as follows: 2200 x 80 x 25 (5 pieces) 2200 x 40 x 20 (4 pieces) 100 x 90 x 90 (6 pieces) I've been given a price of £235 for all of this which includes planing it down to size. Does this...

    laser levels

chippy1970 - thanks for the reply. Yes the PLS is a very good bit of kit however having not used any other brand I didn't want to neglect any others. As I mentioned I see a fair few positive comments for the Leica one. At present it's larger mass is something I would have to see side by side...
