Any turners in the North West?

Hi all, I'm in the middle of quite a different project and I'm in need of 4 decorative columns / pillars turned (i don't have a lathe and I'd rather not buy one just for this job). The pillars need to be 250mm long, around 200mm diameter in Ash I'm based in Blackpool so if there's anyone...

[Q] Fixing skirtingboard the traditional way

I've removed miles and miles of skirting fitted this way, it was the way to do it for several hundred years. the drill a hole and bash a peg in method is much less common (only seen it done in one property). the brick joint method will hold well for a few decades if done well, although I did...

Glueing / Bonding MDF to plastic

try sticks like sh*t, screwfix sell it I think. I've used it to bond plastic to mdf very successfully. tbh I've not found anything it doesn't bond

    Finish for red pine

you could try wire brushing along the grain to create more definition between the summer and winter growth. on a separate note do the uprights comply to building regs? from the pic they don't look like they do

    Painting Plywood

if by the layers showing through you mean the end grain the easiest thing to do would be to rub some filler into the edges, for a good clean sharp finish I usually fill the edges with something like body filler and sand back with a block. epoxy resin will give a great finish but it's expensive...

    Polyester Resin Finish ?

if you're talking about fibreglass type resin I'd advise against it, I've had to repair quite a lot of boats where plywood had been fibreglassed with polyester. it doesn't bond to wood very well at all, especially where it gets wet

    Dewalt DW622k router

Hi all, been offered a DW622k for reasonable(ish) money and I'm wondering if they are any good, I've had an Elu OF97 for years and it's not let me down yet but I've found most things Dewalt, apart from their chopsaws, are pony so I'd appreciate any opinions :D

    'PINE' wood.

normally in the trade we only call the tree still growing 'Pine' when it's cut it's usually referred to as reds or whites, unless it's something more special (expensive) such as pitch pine, yellow pine, Columbian pine (also known as Douglas fir), stika spruce ect.... unless we can't identify...

    Wood Adhesives

the best stuff I've found for getting it off your hands is Slig Spezial, you need to do it whilst it's still soft. I rarely suffer from the dreaded Pu black finger ;-)

    Wood Adhesives

I agree with Heath, you want titebond. I use titebond 2 for most of the internal stuff especially in the kitchen (it's safe for direct food contact) and titebond 3 for anything external for the picture frames I'd use mitre mate, it's handy stuff to keep around (makes a good replacement for...

    Wood Adhesives

is it just for general use out do you have a specific job to glue?

    Wood Adhesives

I've used gorilla polyurethane glue with no problems plenty of times. I find that all the pu glues are very similar the only difference is the setting times. in general I have a bottle or tube of pu (bubble) glue, a bottle of titebond 2 or 3 and a pack of mitre mate (super glue with catalyst...
