    Open a woodturning shop

I buy everything but timber on line. It must be impractical for any number of reasons, surely?

Took The Plunge :D Getting All Excited...

I like Ashley Isles, and they're a bit cheaper than Sorby. Agree that a sharpening system is as important as the tools. A buffing arrangement too.

    Still Ringing the Changes

    My favourite so far!

    Been a long time.....

That's a shame, as he was clearly sympathetic to local artists, but my guess is, you don't need him so much these days

    Been a long time.....

It has been a long time. Remember that little gallery you took your stuff to in the early days? I think they would be impressed!

Some people who really know what they are doing.

These are fabulous. I feel quite sick!

    Phew!

    Lathe centre height?

I agree with Chas - better to find a pallet or something to stand on. Keep your feet warm in the winter too. Starting at 77? What kept you?

    A heads up

Glad you found it and can see what a gem it is. Richard will get what he can for you, cut what he can for you, and if you do have to leave a message on his ansaphone, he actually responds.

New Woodturning Tools - As good as they sound?

I agree 100% on the point tool, but also love my 1/2" flat and round scrapers. Wouldn't be without them.

    Has anyone turned Zebra-Wood?

I use it quite a bit. It's nice enough and I don't think it'll give you any problems in the turning, though, in my experience, you'll have to work to get a really nice finish on it.

    Most cost effective blanks?

www.john-boddy-timber.ltd.uk/ Not sure if this is any good location-wise, but planks is what they do, and exotic ones too.

    Jet JWL-1220 Woodturning Lathe

I personally don't know how I would manage without variable speed. I'm gonna sound really dumb here, but you guys change belts every time you need to change speed? I'm up and down the speed range so often (I thought everyone was) it just wouldn't be practical. My one doesn't have a digital...

    Drilling through cross-grain

I certainly need one of these spur bits Robbo, and I do find taking it slow and easy is best. Thanks for your help.

    Drilling through cross-grain

Thank heaven it's not just me. I've got so much to try out here and will report how I get on. I really appreciate your time. Thanks so much.
