can anyone with a bandsaw help me out (near Cambridge?)

I've had a few offers form people (very generous of everyone ) but a chap who's done this before for knife scales has mentioned that cutting with machine tools tends to make the nut break apart. Looks like the suggestion to use hand tools was a good one ;) Thanks for the offers everyone...

can anyone with a bandsaw help me out (near Cambridge?)

I could but the darn things cylindrical which makes clamping it hard. Its about 180mm long and 60mm diameter. I'll manage but I thought I'd see if anyone could help first. Cheers, Rob.

can anyone with a bandsaw help me out (near Cambridge?)

Hi, I have a banksia nut that I need to section up into 8-10mm thick scales that will be used to make knife handles. Completely new material to me so is there anyone with a bandsaw that would be able to help? I'm based in Cambs just north of Cambridge but can travel. Thanks, Rob.

Hi, due to the expanding number of motorcycles in the Garage, I have a Poolewood PW45-90 vatriable speed lathe with chuck, etc and an old Imp Bandsaw for sale. The lathe works perfectly and comes with a very sturdy (Steel and worksurface) homemade stand with a drawer and storage space under...

    Wooden Castle

My kids have one of these http://www.elc.co.uk/toy/tower-doom-2/ it's very tempting to use all the parts (they slot together) to have a go at making some templates. Something to do on the scrollsaw in the coming winter I reckon. Cheers, Rob.

    Quick release clamps and tensioning

Be aware that spiral blades may not be the answer. I haven't had the chance to use them yet but i've read they can be quite hard to master. Maybe one of the old hands could fill us both in on using spiral blades? Rob.

    Ideal height for saw?

I think I need to raise the saw about 8 inches then. The draughtsmans chair is a good idea - I trained as a draughtsman a long time ago and always found the chairs to be good for that sort of height. Cheers, Rob.

    Ideal height for saw?

Hi, I've just finished trying some of the names that i've seen done on here and my back is flamin' sore. What sort of height do people have their saws at. Is it chest height? Of course I didn't notice till I stopped but i'm sitting here very carefully typing at the moment

    Quick release clamps and tensioning

I've just bought an Axminster machine off here and the first thing i plan to do is replace the blade clamps with the Hegner clock key ones. I've found a very good post on another forum from a man who has done just that and he says it works nicely. Once they arrive i'll let you know how I get on

    XP taskbar

If you download the latest Ubuntu release of Linux it is far and away the most friendly version of Linux. Burn it to a DVD and then you can do a live boot. Choose that during boot and you get to try out the OS without actually installing it. Programs you will want to install of the bat are Open...

    Cheap scrollsaw books

I ordered a few scroll saw books from Hay on Wye booksellers. They are as below; The 4 books came to the grand total of £14.41 including delivery. That's about what i'd spend on the same number of woodworking magazines. Very fast delivery and excellent value, IMO. Just thought i'd leave a...

Anyone know of a Flying Dutchman supplier in East Anglia?

Thanks Steve. I plan to start out with a few toys - I have a pattern for a VW camper I fancy trying and have seen a Landrover that looks fun too. I'll give 3 or 5mm ply a try first I think. Cheers, Rob.

Anyone know of a Flying Dutchman supplier in East Anglia?

I know I can order online but i'd like to take a look at these in person and have a chat with someone in the know. Does anyone know if I can go to a shop and see scrollsaw stuff in the flesh? Also i'm just getting into scrollsawing (just got a used saw of here) and was wondering what a good...
