How to keep freshly sanded look

Just had a chat with General Finishes and the closest product is HP Flat ... http://www.generalfinishes.co.uk/index. ... 7&PID=1173 Basically a high performance Polyurethane finish in Flat. It will give a slight difference in finish to freshly sanded wood but in their opinion is the closest...

How to keep freshly sanded look

Thanks for the replies. Now, I seem to remember I saw a post somewhere several years back, not necessarily on UKWorkshop, where someone had the same problem and a suggested solution was some kind of chemical, not varnish, stain or paint, that locked in the sanded look. I can't find the post...

How to keep freshly sanded look

I've just lightly sanded some used scaffold boards so they are nice and smooth. They are to be used in doors as shelves and tables. I like this freshly sanded look, dull light creamy matt I suppose, but I know over time they will probably yellow. Is there anything I can apply to lock in that...

    Nail gun to replace screws

Now then Mr DonJohnson, you are spot on thanks. After testing Hemsby's Makita AF505 18g air nailer I was absolutely convinced after firing only one brad that this is the way to go. This little bit of kit will reduce my assembly time by 75%. The only downside is where if any pieces of wood are...

    Nail gun to replace screws

Thanks to Keith (Hemsby) for offering me the chance to test out his Makita AF505 and see his setup and great hospitality. I was amazed at how easy and effective the brads are in testing. So now I am awaiting delivery of a Makita AF505 18g air nailer (£60 from FFX); Airmaster Tiger 11/250...

    Planer thicknesser choice

Okay, I've just seen the original post was 2008! Never mind it's still handy to know.

    Planer thicknesser choice

Make sure you check the price of replacement blades as this will influence your choice. I bought a DeWalt DW733 bench thicknesser a while back and although it works very nicely I discovered that the blade are over £70 a pair and rare as hens teeth! They can be sharpened which I've done twice now...

    Nail gun to replace screws

Keith, that is a brilliant offer which I will accept as I'm just outside Wragby so not far. I like Makita and prices are reasonable. PM me your details and when's convenient. Thanks

    Nail gun to replace screws

Thanks for all of the advice. I'll give an air nailer and compressor a go.

    Nail gun to replace screws

OK, air seems the best way to go. What about the actual pointy bits I.e nails, pins or brads. Can the be as effective as screws bearing in mind my screws are a bit overkill? Thanks

    Nail gun to replace screws

    Nail gun to replace screws

I make small (10x6x9cm) wooden boxes out of 18mm softwood for use as insect hotels. I currently glue and screw them with 6gx1.25" screws which make for a good sturdy build albeit overkill. Each box has 8 screws and I make about 50 at a time. I'm now looking at speeding up the build process by...

    Coloured Beeswax Red, Blue etc.

Excellent research mrpercysnodgrass. I searched but found nothing other than encaustic paint which uses vivid coloured beeswax using earth pigments. What you have achieved is exactly my goal. It'll be interesting to see how the result performs long term but its worth having a go myself as it...

    Coloured Beeswax Red, Blue etc.

Does anyone know if beeswax polish is available in vibrant colours such as red, green, blue etc.? I've been using the usual Dark Oak beeswax (tinned soft creamy stuff that goes on with a brush) to finish soft wood products made from pallet wood. I like the finish, feel and ease of beeswax but...
