    The wood haven

Just tried to look on the wood haven & Google says it can`t find the site, is anyone else having the same problem. Regards. dj. Edit, just tried to google intelligent workshop as I believe the same person runs both and this site is similarly unavailable.

one for the plumbers out there....

Not always the best place for a boiler from an access point of view but acceptable as long as adequate protection is provided against frost. In small dwellings the loft space is sometimes the only practical place to install a boiler particularly with the new regs governing the fluming of exhaust...

    sharpening technique

To be fair we`ve heard the other side of the argument all before as well, does it therefore make the others who keep repeating their lines on their way of sharpening trolls? Perhaps it would be better when sharpening is bought up again, as it seems to be weekly, for the moderators to delete the...

Dust Mite and Systainer Drop Box

Very impressive, something I would like to make for myself. Do you have a link to the plastic cyclone supplier? I have just searched for "Dust Mite" on Ebay but am unable to locate the product. Regards. dj.

    Titebond

The fact that Axminster want to charge over double the price I can buy the same size bottle of Titebond for is not the fault of Titebond. I`ve used the Titebond brand for years without a single complaint & find it equally as cost effective as any other branded glue. Axminster`s pricing policy...

    Why no touchy

The main problem with these type of stands is that the displayed pieces do not belong to the club but to the individual members. Hopefully the clubs have the items insured against damage or loss, but even if they do, if they have to claim on the insurance then future premiums will only escalate...

    Stuck drain valve

Take the fitting out of the top of the cylinder, insert a hose pipe so it goes down to the bottom of the cylinder & syphon the water out. Drain offs stick shut 8 times out of 10 in my experience. Regards. dj.

[Q] Painting mdf with silicone sealant on it

If you can`t sand the offending area until the sealer will take, my only other thought is to try a stain blocker. Though trying to remove any traces of silicone by sanding off would be my preferred option. Regards. dj.

    Woodwork heaven

From the pictures it looks pretty idyllic, though from the state of the out buildings it looks like you`ve a lot of work on your hands. Best of luck. regards. dj.

    shrinking timber sizes

Just use the CLS the 65mm thickness outwards, that way the insulation will sit behind the studwork & you will prevent any possible problems with fixing the plasterboard over a void which would be created if you used the CLS the other way round. Regards. dj.

    Axminster hobby bandsaw problem/question

Neil, any chance of posting some pictures of the problem, it`s a lot easier to diagnose a problem when you can see it. Second thought would be to give Axminster a bell. Regards. dj.

You buy a tormek for hundreds of £`s to sharpen the gouges etc, then you can spend hundreds more £`s buying all the jigs that go with the grinder    Personally i use a couple of discs of MDF impregnated with cutting paste spinning on an old electric motor to hone my gouges, I...

    For the pen turners

Really enjoyed that, Thanks for sharing. The chucks with wooden rings looked interesting, got me thinking of how I could utilize that idea. Also left me wondering if at the end he was laughing whilst reiterating stories about turners who he heard of who turn pens one at a time on a lathe with...
