(Beware: rant) Today I has been mostly...

That's interesting because I made some boards a while back with lead free tinning and lead free components - soldered with leaded stuff. About six months later it failed and I had some rather nasty looking joints a bit like Eric has described. I redid one with lead free solder and it seemed to...

Found a dinosaur in my pond!!!

I had a similar experience last year - I didn't catch the blighter though. Page 3 of this document is quite good: http://wow4water.com/media/images/2006914141859.pdf There are others about too. I'd be inclined to go with the Great Diving Beetle theory. We have some (beetles) in the pond and...

    Festool Multi Table inquiry

Yes you can get the guide rail connectors - I bought a set from my friendly dealer when I got my rails. http://www.tooled-up.com/ManProduct.asp?PID=146949 This website just used for illustration - no endorsement of purchase from here! Cheers David

Help - bandsaw on the fritz

Hi Damian, Can you take a picture of the offending item? Also have a look for any buttons for a thermal overload reset. On some controllers the reset is made by pressing the stop button. With all that you've been doing I guess you'll have probably done that anyway. Are the buttons separate to...

    Incra's Rulers

I don't think so - I guess it depends how you like to work. For example I use them for fitting hinges and locks. I could do the same task with a marking gauge like you mention. However, if your using hinges that are the same size etc you can just mark out and instantly know the sizes. (I may...

    Incra's Rulers

They are also available from: http://www.woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/ Not sure how the prices compare... I have both the normal rules, the T rules and an angle rule. I find the T rules extremely useful and they save time marking out and increase accuracy. David

    Another Extraction Question

Sounds like a good idea and I can't see it having any noticable effect on the efficiency. your system sounds good and it would seal itself down with the weather strip. I guess a pulley would work or some ingenious hinged/ sliding system of some sorts. David

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

Okay - I tend to brush the filters off when emptying. I've found when using Oak or Sapele they coat up really quick so I'm brushing them off well before the bin needs emptying. If your vaccing them off where's that dust going and what happens to that filter! :) David

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

Oh dear the dreaded bandsaw :) It's a shame you've given up... remember it took Dyson 5127 prototypes to get his product to market! I made mine with the intention of having to tweak it - hence the clear front. unfortunately, fluid flow is a bit of a black art especially with all the...

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

Flip! What is the flow/power rating of the high powered one? I wonder if it worth trying it with one of the upper sections removed and a deflector put in to stop the flow short circuiting. The other thing that might work is putting a baffle over the holes between sections and take the baffle...

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

Rob, if you suck a pile of dust up - how much gets through (rough %) and what size would you say the smaller particles are that break through? Wizer - it is highly dependant on flow rate and the design. It's a bit of a black art. I was reading a textbook yesterday talking about the designs of...

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

From my point of view the RSDE1 dust extractor design is such that the dust enters the drum in line with the filter so a lot of it hits the filter straight on. Therefore, I invariably spend quite a lot of time lifting the lid up and brushing the filter down (not necessarily emptying the...

Under Development - Garnham style dropout boxes

Hi Mike, I agree looking at extractors is confusing. From my own boggy tread through the specs I think there are too broad types: Chip Extractors - lots of volume - however, they are not good on small diameter pipes - like extracting off a sander. Higher pressure, lower volume ones (More like...

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

Good example Brendan - a similar way of thinking about it is rivers.. where the river is wide you get a slow flow etc and also on the corners the rocks and stuff build up on the inside (think of a car differential). There will be some loss - as one of the laws of Thermodynamics tells us "You...
