I would check that the knives are in the cutter head correctly, it sounds like one is not set correctly.

I think this is meant to be used on a flat abrasive stone or wet & dry on glass like scary sharp. The back wheels are eccentric, which rocks the jig to grind the clearance angle for the cutting edge. I remember wanting one of these when still at school, I never could sharpen drills with Dads...

That describes me as well. I did a team building course, not in the wilds, only planning what to do if we had been in an air crash. I think most of them would die very quickly, but with a little bit of ingenuity, survival was more than possible, my team got the best marks the trainer had ever...

One solution I have used for this sort of thing is a length of old leather belt, a turn or 2 taped into the port to reduce the size down.

Unfortunately Niki is not around to read your comments, having passed on to the big workshop in the sky. His ideas are still here to remind us of the useful ways he found to do things.

No idea if this will help but I would get the air line out and give the free end a good blast, the air might help to break the stickion between the sleeve and the spindle.
