    Drilling holes and bench dogs

Hacked together the attached which worked quite well for the vice mounting bolt recesses, although needed the clamps for the 25mm auger bit as it lifted the base. Smaller bits may not require the clamps. Unfortunately I broke the drill stand on something else before getting to try it with the...

    Drilling holes and bench dogs

Thanks for all the replies. I took a trip down to Screwfix and got one of the 19mm Woodbeaver bits. I was going to get an auger bit and compare but they didn't have a single 19mm bit in those. I have a drill stand (not a Wolf one!) so will have to work on how to get it clamped in place...

    Drilling holes and bench dogs

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of using Auger bits - for some reason I associate those with hand drills but the big flat spirals presumably help with clean edges. I'll check youtube out for the straight holes.

    Drilling holes and bench dogs

Hi I'm in the process of building my new work bench and fitted a nice old Parkinsons No 16 vice to the side of the bench yesterday. However in drilling the holes for the bolts affixing it to the worktop it reminded me how unprecise drilling holes can be (at least when I do it anyway!). For that...

    Workbench Crisis

What about an electric planer like this? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 104992.htm Cheap as chips, then you could finish it off with a hand plane.

    Dust extractor advise needed please.

I am mulling over what dust extraction to set up myself at the moment and found this video very informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2ivsVOp8NY Although that video recommends against wet/dry workshop vacuum cleaners, I think there are 1 micron filters available for my Nilfisk one so...

    Plywood Bench Worktop

Thanks for all the replies. I am coming round to the idea of using 2 x 27mm layers of beech but with delivery and oil it still adds up to over a ton. B&Q do a pre-oiled sheet of it for £87 but typically not in any nearby store and then I'd have to cut it in the carpark to fit it in the car. I...

    Plywood Bench Worktop

Hi All I am looking to build a workbench for my newly constructed shed. For the top I was initially going to use 2 sheets of 40mm thick solid beech kitchen worktop glued together. I only have room to make the bench 1.5M long so one 3M sheet cut in half was the plan, however that's still about...

    Quick Release Vices

 Nice work. You've gone to some impressive lengths with her there and she is positively glowing! Made a mental note about the 2k if I feel like going that fair (with the Parkinsons anyway, as the Record paint isn't too bad).

Is Lanolin not sticky? Sounds like useful stuff though, and sorts out those sore nipples too... errr

    Quick Release Vices

OK thanks, that sounds pretty straightforward. I'll give it a go as it'll be nice to get the vices properly clean and serviceable.
