    Roofing help please...

Hello again! I am interested in making a gambrel roof for a shed which is around 6x4m. I have made a cut roof with hips on a small scale just for a bit of fun (yes it has come to this...) Does it have to be based on a semi circle to have structural integrity? I'd like to bend the rule a bit to...

Would this setup be able to take a 50x50mm length of would and take it down to a finished size of 45x45mm PSE? Is this something that could be done in a straightforward manner and is it OK practice, if not good practice please? I am assuming that a small amount of planning may be required...

    Dust extractor voltage question

What would be the best voltage to get? Would I be allowed to use a 240v on site (even though I am not doing that sort of stuff...) I have some 110v stuff anyway. Is 240v better because the transformer will plug into the vac and have a spare output on the transformer. All help appreciated

A question for Earlex HVLP sprayer users (or other hlvp)

Just wondering if the HV5000 would spray a creosote substitute and garden furniture preservers and paint. I suspect it probably will from the posts that I have read so far but I am not sure how well I understand what's been written. Still a beginner really. The other thing is, is the HV5500...

    Circular saw newb question

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on cheap circular saws. I have one that is made by Skil, it's one I have borrowed and is heavy, noisy, a bit vicious and has no riving knife. Would a £100ish makita or dewalt be any better? Is there any point in upgrading as this is the only one I've...

    Getting wood from a sawmill

Yo! I was wondering if its worth getting wood from a local sawmill for garden furniture? They supply softwood 'green' and not planed and thought it might be a better idea than a timber merchant. What are the pros and cons of this? I understand that I would be planing the wood myself...

    Brick planters?

Hi Peoples! I did a bit of brickwork at college and I thought I'd hate it but it was pretty good fun IMHO. I am interested in building a brick planter, done a few in wood that went ok but I'd like a brick one. My main concern is drainage. If its on a concrete path or something what about...

Manual miter saw (and some very good skirting board tips)

I got manual miter saw from ebay for a tenner; used and the trouble is it seems to go off line when I am cutting depths of say two skirting boards. It might be my mistake but there is no adjustment and I can watch the blade veer off. I bought it because I could not afford a powered saw. I...

Treasure chest type box with curved lid

I'd like to make a treasure chest type box with curved lid but I am a bit confused as how to get the horizontal beams to fit. Would I need to get the angles of the wood cut to make a nice curve and if so how would I do this please? I can only imagine the corners sticking out otherwise.
