    Worktop mitre cut

Ok this make sense, feel a bit stupid now! I think I'll have to take the mafell off the rail to get the 40.5mm as definitely didn't cut through 40mm at 45 degree previously. Thanks for your help.

    Worktop mitre cut

I will be fitting a kitchen worktop shortly, walnut, and would like to mitre the ends and drop the worktop vertically to the ground. I'm going to use dominos as this will be joining end grain to end grain. I have a mafell mt55 however this will only cut 40.5mm at 45 degrees any ideas what tool I...

Bosch FSN OFA Router Guide Rail Adapter

Hi, I have been waiting for mafell to bring out a router plate adapter to use with their guide rails, it turns out Bosch use the same rail design and they've recently bought out this new router plate. Does anyone have one and could provide a review or comment on whether it's any good. I'd be...

Palm router bit come loose issue

Of course, I haven't used it in a while and had completely forgotten that the base locks into position, instead I was just tightening the locking bit up. Doh! Will try it tomorrow but 90% sure this will be the issue. Thanks for all the advice.

Palm router bit come loose issue

Today I was trimming 7mm rough sawn cherry lippings on mdf veneer. I have previously used my dewalt dw625 with a piece of mdf screwed to it a large straight bit zeroed against the mdf base... I saw this tip on this forum a couple of weeks ago. Anyhow, today I decided to try my Bosch...

New chuck for pillar drill recommendation

Just checked runout on the walker turner, it has 0.06mm. Motor is a Brook Crompton Gryphon, not sure of hp/watts as the plates got too much old paint on it.

New chuck for pillar drill recommendation

I did a lot of research before purchasing the walker turner. The general conclusion of my research was that if I wanted to waste some money and workshop space but a cheap £200-300 new pillar drill. I couldn't find a cheapish drill that consistently got good reviews. My walker turner is about 60...

Informative site on finishing wood floors

I'm relatively new to woodworking so continually research finishing advice and I came across this site and thought others might find it interesting. http://www.floorsanding-uk.com/guide%20to%20wood%20finishing.html I have a number of victorian pine wood floors to renovate and, following a...

New chuck for pillar drill recommendation

Thanks for the suggestion. Annoyingly the chuck that has the runout is a Jacobs chuck, however if it is as old as the drill that makes it around 60 years old, and I recon it wasn't treated too well. Having ordered cheap tools before and swearing I'd never do it again I parted with 50 big ones...

New chuck for pillar drill recommendation

I purchased an old walker turner bench drill earlier this year, it looks similar to this one. Unfortunately it had a lot of run out, about 3mm!!! Fortunately it was just the chuck. After removing it I am left with a Jacobs Taper 33 machined directly onto the spindle. Can anyone recommend...

Best material / wood to use - fitted bookcase

Thanks Cheshire Chappie and Marcus, I remember seeing Norm (New Yankee Workshop) make some painted furniture from Poplar and he raved about how easy it was to work with. I have a timber yard just round the corner that have lots of redwood; I'm guessing this will be cheaper than Poplar? Aside...

Best material / wood to use - fitted bookcase

Hi, I would like to make something similar to this fitted bookshelf and need to decide on what material to use. Obvious choice that springs to mind is MDF however I really don't like working with it. It will be painted once finished. Any suggestions for material other than MDF welcome.

    What wood is this?

Please could someone let me know what wood is used for the sink countertops or an alternative wood that would look the same in colour? Thanks Steve

    Chuck removal, what wedges?

I picked up a Walker Turner Bench Drill from ebay about a month back. It looks great, really solid and cannot wait to get it out of my kitchen and in to the workshop, fortunately my girl friend is very tolerant of my ebay purchases waiting in the kitchen till I find space in my shop! I've got...

Best heat gun and advice needed - sash window refurb

Thanks for all your advice. After a number of hours research I have decided to go the Steinel HG 2310 LCD, pleased you mentioned this make Caz as I ordered it last night. Cost me around £100 plus another £15-20 for some nozzles. From the looks of the reviews it should last a long time, a bit...

Best heat gun and advice needed - sash window refurb

Thanks for the advice. I would agree that Black and Decker made a great hot air gun however my Dewalt is exactly the same as the link you sent me, just different colour and name. Black and Decker own Dewalt. Reviews on amazon suggest that this B&D model has the same problems as the Dewalt...
