Wos Dis Blank Space on Diamond Stones for?

Can someone please tell me why it is that many "interrupted" diamond stones have this blank space that is not impregnated with any diamond at one end of the plate?

I find it more common with sharpening stones on the cheaper end of the market. Can someone explain why this is?

That blank space is actually coated in diamonds and I'm assuming is for touching up smaller/narrower blades that would otherwise get caught in the perforated larger area.

I'm not sure, but the diamonds must be sharp because the warning is there - "not to be used by children".

Strange! The link that the OP posted shows only one side of the stone having that (blank) area!

I've always made boxes for my oil stones with sufficient length of wood at the ends just so I don't have to move to another tool just to take off the wire edge. :?
