Woodworking bench recomendations

I am looking for a wood working bench, budget around the £400 mark, can anyone recommend some good websites or benches? i have looked at the Axminster ones and not loving them.

That budget will allow you, plenty of wood and a quality vise.

yes building your own isn't too expensive, but you'll need the tools, I did mine (mostly) with a 4 1/2 bench plane that cost around £30, and make sure you get a decent vice, think about what you really need and don't need, this can be difficult to know until you actually have a bench and start using it regularly.

Since it's a pressie I presume secondhand isn't something you'd consider? I'll suggest it though, since I was poking around on Gumtree yesterday or the day before and saw more than a couple of benches on offer that would leave you with £350+ in change from your budget.
