Hi everyone.

I was looking to get a biscuit jointer, I had been looking at the forum and it appeared that for my budget the makita was the way to go. Anyway, yesterday i visited my local store so I could see the makita in the flesh only to stumble over lamello. The store assistant spotted me and started giving me the advantages the lamello. I am new to biscuits, but i do want accuracy and have always lent towards quality. Is there a great deal of differnece of accuracy between makita and the lamello. £250 more over the makita is alot.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

ps. I then saw the lamello invis thing and had to have a sit down. (hammer)

Simple answer- ignore them both and buy a domino.

No. There isn't any "noticeable" difference in accuracy between even cheap jointer and the lamello. The lamello is a great but the maki will do you fine. Im still using a £40 biscuit jointer and its bob on every time. If using it at angles I make sure the angle is correct using a combo square or bevel to which its normally fine, give it a deg or two.

The main difference between £40 ones to £200 ones and then the Lamello is build quality, part quality, blade that comes with the machine and noise levels.

If you can justify spending the extra then go for the lamello if not and you fancy the maki one, go for it. When it comes to tools I tend to by the best but im very happy with my cheapo one but once that breaks (had it years) ill go for one thats not as noisy which will probably be an AEG at around £100.

I have used a blue bosch for a number of years, its very similar to the makita. I have used more than 20,000 biscuits and it still very accurate

I have been using a Freud biscuit jointer (JS!102 I think) for the last twelve years - been used almost daily and is still going strong - changed the blade a few times but would strongly recommend it and £500 cheaper than a domino!

Would replace it with the same tomorrow if I had to - Standard biscuits are also a lot cheaper than dominos

But then whatever floats you boat - I always advise buy a tool that YOU like - recommendation is great but at the end of the day it is you who will be using it so get what you want (Wife allowing of course!)

I can definatley see the advantages with a domino but at £650 its quite expensive. Its good to hear that the makita will be accurate as the sales assistant was a bit vague on the subject and this is my main concern. I have heard good things about the AEG and that the fence is really good. I have alot of maki stuff so is why i was leaning towards them.

I really appreciate a of your comments

Dodge,
The problem is that my mrs will always say get the best one, some times i wish she would say , How much??????? na, keep dreaming.

I am a house restorer, specialising in timber frames and lime work, but trained up as an oakwright. I havea work shop for oak doors and windows, so got Startrite p/t spindle moulder, t/s . b/s etc. I always think of the future so was thinking of making smaller pieces like kitchen units and commisioned stuff. i will have develop the art of fine funiture making as its abit differnt from joining 12 x12 timbers though.

I thought it may be a ECHO echo echo echo

I have had my Makita for about 15 years now and it has done a lot of biscuits and works just as well now as when I bought it.

Checkout the price of the Bosch model. It is the same as the Makita and certainly used to be cheaper.
I've had my blue Bosch of many years and it works very well and is rigid and accurate.
I think it is a GFF22A

Bob

1000 Dominos cost the same as my Atlas Copco with 1000 biscuits and a steel box.

I'm all for getting the best tools but the differential is ridiculous.

If I were running a business where time was money and quality was paramount...I would consider a Domino simply because it has such rave reviews (particularly here) but I don't so I can't see a Domino in my future....probably ever.

It's horses for courses...if you can justify the expense and make it pay for itself...go for the Domino..otherwise the Makita, AEG (Atlas Copco as was)...or Bosch are probably more than adequate.

Jim

I do like the domino, but i agree they are just completely out of my budget. I think i will go for the lamello for 350, its got a really nice fence and has a 7 year garrantee. I really appreciate of your input and avdvice you guys ahve always put me on the right track. :D
