Which wood should I use?

Morning All,
I'm very new to woodworking but keen to learn so I thought that I would attempt to make shutters for my sons bedroom windows but I'm not sure what the best wood to use would be.
I've got stacks of pallet wood but perhaps that may be too heavy?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I would just use pine.
10mm cladding In a frame.
This will give you practice making notice and tenon joints etc.
