Some 30 or 40 years ago I bought a Sandvik panel saw, 18", 7 TPI, crosscut teeth, plastic handle. Not knowing or caring for the difference - it had what I needed, a convenient size and teeth that actually cut - I used it happily both for ripping and for cross-cutting.

I tried sharpening it once, with disastrous results (mind you, there was neither internet nor forums where one could find advice, be it good or bad...). Then I had to care for other things, like earning a living for a family, and left the saw neglected for a (big) number of years.

I now feel the need for a small-medium sized saw, and decided to rejuvenate that Sandvik. As the teeth are in a very sorry state indeed, they will have to be worked upon. But I would prefer the saw to be rip-toothed. Since I will need to have quite some work on those teeth anyway, would it be a big mistake to try converting them from cross-cut to rip?

Making a decent handle is also on the list, but I will have to attend to the teeth first, of course.

I will not be working on this right away - the list of "to do" grows by the day, as usual - but any advice would be much apreciated

(edit - had the blade length wrong...)
