Beginner's question to all you cabinet makers:

For the freestanding cabinet shown what order should I build it, assuming some biscuit and pocket hole joints are used (I haven't progress to anything fancier!).

I have colour grouped by what I think I should be the construction order
1. red 2. yellow 3. green 4. blue

Material is oak veneered MDF

Oh and any thoughts about a neat way to hang the doors? (1 of 2 shown) . Piano hinge?

Hi Kingcod - I'm no expert so this could be the blind leading the blind.

I recently finished a run of cupboards and made them as separate units - all veneered mdf.

Base was first, made of 25mm mdf and around 60mm high to get above the skirting board. Having this as a separate carcase makes getting a level base easier. Allowed for an overhang at the front and floor to cabinet top end panels of 25mm.

Then each unit was made individually of 18mm mdf and just slotted them into place - used dominos at the rear of each cupboard into the base to ensure alignment. Units were screwed to each other with recessed screw holes and then plugged. Also, where units joined together covered the 36mm with iron on veneer.

I can email the sketch-up file if you pm me.
